You don't get a chance at the ball back until the fouled team starts shooting free throws.

So in HS bball the timer never stops? Even after a foul has just been called

The team on D mugged themselves off by not being able to stop 2 guys passing to each other.....

The coach should be fired and laughed at for not being able to get the ball back in an entire quarter.

I've already shown you. It's called Unsporting Behaviour. AGAIN: read the rules. Either you've never taken a FOOTBALL referee class or you want to use rules only at your convenience. Either way, I'm done, because the proof is there.

In soccer the team with a lead is regularly penalized for running clock at the end of the game. Examples include Goalie holding the ball for too long, players faking injury, etc...

that's entirely different than passing the ball between players hoping to prevent the other team from gaining possession.

I already told him it's unsporting behavior, but he won't listen.

I'd like to confirm I have never taken a football referee class.

This is true. But basketball as a sport is different. Thus the creation of the shot clock. The reason it is not enacted at a high school level is due to financial reasons. Point being this tactic is poor sportsmanship. As Swoley-d mentioned, poor sportsmanship can be penalized in soccer.

I've had a team do this in a game I was playing in a Church league. I finally steal the ball, and the guy slaps me across the arm, and of course no call from the officials. My reaction got me banned.

That's what I'm saying. Either foul them or trap the other team and force them to give up the ball.
