oh, no...i'm not purchasing real estate. I'm an attorney. Waiting on opposing counsel to get me a counter-offer to my client's settlement offer....and I'm kind of stuck on zero till that happens...not wanting to dive into anything else until then. but thanks for the congrats!!
And thats where I disagree with. Not knowing and admitting now knowing should not be considered ignorance. Pretending to know is.
Yea man I think you overreacted a little bit, Haymitch was clearly poking fun out of it. Tide goes in , tide goes out... Friggin EPIC.
though atheism deals with belief and agnosticism deals with knowledge, i've known a lot of agnostic atheists (which, in my experience, comprise 99% of all atheists) who just tell people they are agnostic, because of the social stigma surrounding the term "atheist." many people (including myself) were raised to believe that atheists are worse than the scum on the bottom of your shoe. my brain is used to dividing everything into a good box and an evil box, with no room for gray area. i have found that many people raised with very black-and-white thinking have a hard time overcoming the habit, even if they can objectively say religion makes no sense. "atheist" is still a ridiculously polarizing term in itself and a lot of people are afraid to claim that label. as for those who say atheists are just as pushy and mean as religious people, i do not experience that in my day to day life. i work with 2 other atheists in my office, and the only reason i know they are atheists is because we've hung out and drank and had in depth discussions. we are all in the closet because everyone else we work with are very outspoken christians. what do you do except smile politely and not say anything? i can't tell you how often i've bitten my tongue when one of the managers makes a derogatory joke about atheists or sarcastically refers to "science" knowing everything. we just stay quiet, period. now, i will admit that some atheists are even more insufferable than religious people. organized atheist groups tend to bring those people out. i would never, ever be disrespectful to someone's face about their beliefs.
I'm not arguing the definition of ignorance, im simply pointing out it is incorrect to categorize "admitting not knowing" as ignorance.
Problem of the US I guess. In New Zealand Ive never had any problem talking about religion, no matter its in the office or on the football field during the break. I actually go to one of the local methodist church quite often because both my wife and I used to be Christians( well at least I tried to be one), Ive had lengthy conversations with their staffs --- no problem at all.
I don't know about the existence of god, but I can always count on the existence of one of these "religion" threads in the D&D.
And that is simply not true. Admitting to "not know" does not change that lack of knowledge. The only way to not be catorgorized as ignorant, is to gain knowledge or truth on what is unknown. "Admitting not knowing" is simply admitting ignorance. How you chose to catergorize things is up to you.
I'm a Christian. Shame that people can't just live and let live. If you believe you believe, and if you don't, that's fine too. Everybody has their own morals, beliefs, standards, etc. But if you go out of your way to criticize one's beliefs, that's when you cross the line in my opinion.
What knowledge? The knowledge of a deity actually exists? You can't possibly call something unjustifiable knowledge then turn around and point at everyone else in disbelief ignorance, it falls again into the burden of proof issue. Hell, even Plato defined knowledge as "justified true belief".
I'm not sure if you're being obtuse or what, but yes, the knowledge of whether or not a deity actually exists. None of us know the answer to this. There is an answer, but we don't have it. We don't know the answer. There's an answer out there, but we can't say for certain that we know what it is. We don't know for sure. When we're asked this question, this is how we look: . When it comes to this answer, we're all ignorant. Clear enough? Beyond that, I'm just going to have to agree to disagree.
