It is more for his own safety, man. Now you're repeating what you said (the excuse part) and on top of that you're throwing insults that make matters worse and only make you look upset. Don't do this to yourself. Maybe the # of tickets IS a revenue-building scheme, so because of this, people should drive safer and better than usually to not give officers the benefit of the doubt, maybe?

As far as driving is concerned, you have to stay UNDER the limit in the RIGHT lanes, but if you're using the LEFT lane, only go the MAXIMUM allowed posted speed limit. That's not hard to decipher.

If there is someone in the fast lane going 50 and I'm hauling butt at 60, they should move to the right lane. It's common courtesy, safer, and a law.

While I agree that it's safer to stay in the right lane when you're not passing anyone up, the ticket he got wasn't for staying in a passing lane though. I've never liked traffic cops, so I always refer to them as pigs. Him getting that ticket dismissed easily pretty much told you how worthless it was, just wasted his time and gas really. I don't know how often driving too slow in the left lane even gets enforced, but it's definitely not something you really hear a lot about.

You can calls cops what you want, but you do realize you come across as an idiot when you do use the word "pig" right? Just want to make sure you're aware/ok with that.

I understand your disdain. I understand your prejudice. Understandable. Now... about your dad:

Even if it was dismissed... and he only "wasted" his time and gas... [get ready for this:] I bet he didn't drive in the left lane NOT PASSING from then on. Am I right? ;)

Else... he's risking getting another ticket.

Good for Maryland. If anyone has ever been to DC, I-95 is one of the worst traffic jams in the US.

This should be more commonplace as impeding the flow of traffic is more dangerous than speeding.

Cops should do this more often. That was hilarious. The only thing is, did the idiot driving slow understand why the cop did it?

Here's a link to the law cited:

    http://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/2005/gtr/21-301.html

[rquoter] (b) On every roadway, except while overtaking and passing another vehicle going in the same direction or when preparing for a lawful left turn, any vehicle going 10 miles an hour or more below the applicable maximum speed limit or, if any existing conditions reasonably require a speed below that of the applicable maximum, at less than the normal speed of traffic under these conditions, shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.[/rquoter]

Doesn't seem guilty to me. Actually seems like the law is poorly written, unless there is additional code or a revision that exists.

Not too surprising. I've seen traffic backup because no one wanted to drive faster than a police car on the freeway, even going 5-10mph under the speed limit to do so.

Luckily, most cops break the law.

This is just BS now days.

I got a ticket in the left lane for going 7 miles over the speed limit and this lady gets a ticket for going 2 under the speed limit.

So basically we have to be exactly at the speed limit and up to five miles over at all times or we're going to get taxed....errrrr...ticketed?

THE WORST TICKET I recieved last year was when a cop pulled me over for going 92 in a 70 and he gave me two speeding tickets, instead of one.

    WTF was that!

Couldn't they have just said...can't go over the speed limit, can go under the minimum, can't use the left lane if you're not passing or going more than 10 below the limit.

Only time I usually am in the left lane is on the interstates out of Houston. Then it's usually too much trouble to keep having switch lanes because of slow cars. I usually go 5-10 over and stay in the left lane. If there's no cars in the right and it looks like a bunch of cars are coming up behind and the car right behind me isn't tailing, then I'll get over. But if a car behind me wants to go 20 over and decides to tail me, flash his lights and honk..then screw you.

I'm sure it's karma for holding up traffic because he feels more comfy in "his" favorite lane.

Awesome. Who cares if it doesn't hold up in court? It wastes her time (and money, if she hires an attorney). All she had to do was drive 62 in the right lane.

She basically got a ticket for driving in the left lane for no good reason.

She was driving like a dick, she got a ticket, her speed was pretty much an irrelevance.

While I applaud you driving faster than the traffic to your right while in the passing lane. therefore using it properly, I must say that you aren't doing your civic duty on the road by taking the 'trouble' to get out of faster car's way by the oh-so-tedious task of adjusting your steering wheel 5 degrees.

Honestly, if getting over a lane is too much trouble, you probably should just use mass transit where available.

LOL...karma is going to bite you on the ass one day.

Anyway, really? Pig? Is that the BEST you can do is to rehash some old term used 50 years ago?

Unless you're my age but then, that's like caring the same hate for a very long.

(I will admit, maybe the youth is still using that term and I'm not aware of it)
