Came across this in tinman's thread in GARM, so I decided to take it down here for deeper discussion. No, Roxon, it's just wrong. I did not claim that I believe there is no God --- as an atheist, I simply do not have a religious belief and I dont find sufficient evidences to buy into any religious claims. I do not know whether there is a supreme being or not, nor do I claim I know. But you are right, I do not have to prove it, because I have not made any claims regarding to the very existence of such deity, the burden of proof is not on me, but on whoever claim that this deity exists.
Technically you are agnostic and not atheist. Atheist believe there is no god. Agnostic don't believe there is enough evidence either way.
Those 2 terms are not mutually exclusive, Atheists tend to focus on what they do know and Agnostics have no problem admitting that they dont. But either way, you get my point.
all i know is that anything we know about jesus was written decades after he supposedly existed. and paul's writings were the earliest. and he was not with jesus and the 12. and the jesus story has about a bagillion things in common with the pagan gods of old... jesus may never have even existed!
I don't believe in Santa or the Tooth Fairy. I don't feel the urge to create threads to discuss my belief ... or lack of belief.
I wonder if the so called atheists spend more time telling people there is no God than Christians telling there is a God.
Claiming to be an atheist is a cop out. No higher power to answer to? Great, I'll do whatever the hell I want. Science
I'm sorry. I didn't realize I needed a higher power to tell me to be an ethical person. Well, guess I'll just go around murdering people since atheists clearly have no morals.
A true person who abides by the bible's standards and principles have the best morals. Those who don't might have good morals, but not up to the bible's standards.
Many people don't need to live in constant fear of a giant cop in the sky and a fiery eternal jail in order to be good human beings. The worst people I've met have always been those who were most convinced of their own goodness.
You don't need to live in constant fear. That's where people are wrong. It's ok to have a HEALTHY fear of God, but there's no need to walk on pins and needles every day. Nobody's perfect and God knows that.
You obviously don't respect my opinion telling me that atheists that don't believe in God will never be better than Christians. I respect people's beliefs up until the point where they do not respect mine. Treat others like you would like to be treated. Isn't that the biblical thing to do? Being condescending isn't a good start. Anyways, people should really avoid starting religious threads in the D&D. People's views are extra entrenched on this issue.
