I know. Just highlighting how arbitrary it is to think one achievement (an NBA championship) is worth glossing over any other achievements (record winning streaks). It's all ultimately forgettable and transient - at some point, the 2013 championship will be a thing of the past, and bringing it up will mean your team hasn't done anything lately. If a discussion about achievements ever came up and you had to defend the Houston Rockets, I'd hope you pull out the 22 game win streak, since more likely than not we won't be able to claim more championships than the marquee teams, but we've got something none of them have.
I'm sorry but our streak as good as it was isn't worth ****. Who the hell placed second after Usain Bolt? The 2nd guy on the moon? Don't get me wrong, I loved our win streak. But as far as record goes, it has significance only among Rockets lore. Just as nobody here cares who has the 3rd longest win streak and if the Heat have passed them, I'm pretty sure nobody outside the Rox fanbase cares about our 2nd longest win streak, esp. since that streak didn't produce a championship or even a deep playoff run.
What's the championship worth to you? Nobody outside of Houston cares how many championships the Rockets have.
I don't know which would sound better. (BTW, yeah, that's not even a record. But it's a rare streak.) It could just be me. Ralph Sampson's "Shot heard around the world" that eventually beat the mighty Lakers in the WCF was as memorable as the two championships we won. Yeah, that victory didn't really produced a championship. But that's one of the proudest moments in my fanhood.
Recall that our championships were won because Jordan took a break. And it has been almost 20 years already. So the 22 win streak is really not much to brag about.
Jordan was in the league for one of our championships. Also we had a good record against the Bulls around that time. So not "because".
It's an honor if it is MIA that will beat our record. So we will be mentioned around the likes of such great dominating teams ...
Championships validate your franchise.. You don't want to be a franchise that never won a championship in it's history. Comparing our win streak to championships is ignorant.. People look at teams and wonder how many championships they've won. Not what their longest win streak is.. "My team just won it's 5th championship!" "..but my team won 22 games in a row!" Yeah, it's not a good comparison
One team wins the championship every single season. Only two teams in the history of the league have had a win streak of 22 games or longer.
Our 22-win streak isn't really worth much because we had Novak. I mean if you have the Novakaine aka Brokeback Novak and you don't produce at least a 20-game win streak that season... then I don't know what to tell ya.
hmmm.... I don't care if our streak is in jeopardy really, because the team doing it is BETTER and more deserving of such an honor (possible 2nd place? not getting 1st) than the team we had do it. It doesn't compare to championships, playoff runs, etc yada yada. That being said... sure, it'll only ever matter to Rockets fan anyways, but I remember the injury turmoil that year, Yao going out after what...the 9th win? Tmac's play, Deke's play, Novak's 3, beating the Lakers to gain the #1 spot after being 10th when the streak began... It is something I will honestly always remember as a fan, and it is also something that not many teams have ever done, so yes I think it holds merit and memory deserving of more than just fan remembrance.
There have been a lot of teams to win an NBA championship. There is one that had a longer streak than ours. Its at least something, probably the most exiting this team has done in the last 15 years.
I dont give to damns about the 22 game win streak. It was a flukey streak. Rockets weren't the best team in the West that year, not even close. I'd say winning 22 games and then losing in the first round is more embarrassing by itself.
