We all know how everything play out during the 1984 Nba Draft with all those superstar talent from that draft...Well fast forward up 30 years into the 2014 Nba Draft were you have multiple pontential superstar talent on the horizon...Then you add the new comminisioner coming in 2014 just like David Stern inherit the position in 1984 just before the 84' draft...But the similiarities don't end there, you also have a talent who could one day become the next MJ in Wiggins someone who can carried the league for years to come...So it is kinda eerie and great that "maybe" a new golden age of basketball is coming up in a few years...
You are right Langhi as far as the Draft goes, but I think it was a smart move for Stern to leave just when the next great wave of talent is coming in... I do agree the 84,96,and 03 drafts are Special, but Im still very happy how strong the 2014 class looks like and how it is shaping up... Hopefully for every fan's sake it turns out to be the best ever...After all Lebron is already 28 and Kobe is about to be 35 and they won't last forever...
I think you meant '84, not '86, but 2003 can't hold a candle to 1984 yet. Here's why : Jordan : Possibly greatest or 2nd greatest player ever. Dream : Possibly top 5 center ever. Barkley : Possibly top 5 PF ever. Stockton : Top 3-5 PG ever. That's 4 players at 4 different positions who were arguably top 5 at the positions all-time, and that doesn't even begin to touch the players who were "good" or "pretty damn good" left over in that draft like Sam Perkins, Alvin Robertson, Otis Thorpe, Kevin Willis, Michael Cage, Jerome Kersey, and Devin Durrant (lol... jk... had to add him in there with a name like that). The 1996 draft has a better argument for being a better class than 1984, I think.
I couldnt agree more...its not even close... The top players from 84 were just amazing. I think us Rockets fan tend to underrate stockton because of our hatred for that Jazz team but the guy is still the all time leader in steals & assists and by pretty good margins. His record will probably be safe for quite awhile. Barkley was an amazing PF and its a bummer he never won a title. He was the reason I started watching the NBA. Jordan and the Dream - what else is there to say .. one is the greatest ever and the other is the dream The only player from the 2003 draft class that belongs in the same conversation as Jordan and Olajuwon, is Lebron James.. and for Barkley and Stockton it's maybe Wade... Other players like Carmelo, Bosh, Kaman are good players especially Carmelo but cant include him till he really starts making an impact. At this point Melo is like Tmac except his prime/ceiling wasnt even as high as Tmac.
96 was deeper than 84.. But 84 still has better top players. so yea I guess someone could make the argument that 96 was better overall depending on how you define better.
