So, I want to understand you correctly. Anquan Boldin isn't that great in the regular season because he isn't that great. Anquan Bolding is great in the postseason because his QB is great. Forget that Boldin was a pro bowl receiver in Arizona, and last year he put up the most yards of his 3 year Ravens career. Of course fans want him on the Texans. Anquan Boldin > Kevin Walter
What I'm saying is, this guy is good. Don't get me wrong if people would give me the option of Boldin or Walter as my true #2, of course I would take Boldin. But the guy was as Shaud put it "the forgotten man" until he started finally making the game winning/clinching plays down the stretch on the road to the Super Bowl. Till that time Torrey Smith was the one consider the "big play" receiver of the two. Before that 4 game stand Baltimore was looked at as the team with weapons that just couldn't put it together on offense. They had duds against us, the Broncos (whom they beat in the playoffs), and even Kansas City whom they barely beat 9-6. Basically the guy wouldn't have been a bad p/u but he was far from being consider even the #1 receiver on that team before the playoffs started.
I guess I'd point to having studs that are paid as such (top 5 if not top 3) at premier positions WR, RB, LT, CB...and important positions C, ILB. Plus spending a lot on a safety due to secondary issues and spending a lot on a DL because of a horrid pass rush at the time. And yes, the Schaub mistake. (I would think other teams have at least one mistake signing they're dealing with) And all of those guys + an elite OLB/DL last year and a top 5-10 RT. I don't know if I'd call it horribly managed or if it's just the fallout of having a good team with good players at this age. Like others have said, maybe this team hit their peak too late. This talent level should have peaked before requiring everyone to get paid at the same time.
He's led the Ravens in receiving yards each of the last 3 years. He led them in catches last year as well. He certainly isn't an alpha like AJ, CJ, Fitz, etc, but you can't say he was far from the Ravens #1. Ravens basically had 3 #2 guys in Smith, Boldin, and Pitta.
Agree with everything here. This just goes to show how mediocre the Ravens passing game/receivers were before the post season started.
Agree and disagree. I don't know if leading the Ravens in receving yards each of the last 3 years and leading them in catches is really something to gloat about. Torrey Smith is inconsistent and he's the ultimate boom or bust player. Pitta is quite good at playing hide and seek as well and we all know about Jacoby. So basically Boldin led the Ravens by default. 65/921/4 may not be far from a number 1 for the Ravens but for any other team that's a solid #2 at best. Boldin had a solid year capped by a glorious championship run but lets not blow things out of proportion here. If the Ravens we're eliminated in the Divisional or Conf championship and Boldin was released it wouldn't be that big of a deal like people are making it out to be. Just like how Flacco only became the highest paid QB because of the superbowl high.
I agree. I was saying he was arguably still the Ravens #1, but in reality he is more of a #2, which I also think Torrey Smith is as well. The sharp numbers decrease going from Arizona to Baltimore, and then his huge playoff numbers when Flacco got going, leads me to believe he can still be a 75-80 catch 1000 yard guy in the right offense.
TBH, they b**** because there has NEVER been a second reciver on this team as good a Boldin. It's has to do with the team having an obvious hole they have refused to patch for years even though they've tried and FAILED drafting WRs. THey had a chance at Lloyd and said no too, remember that.
