People get all worked up by a dunk. Look at the DeAndrea Jordan thread. The only thing it achieved was two points in a fairly insignificant game. Why? Because it was an amazing dunk that few people could do. Why shouldn't we say that the Rockets' 22-game streak was an even more amazing achievement that very few teams have done in the HISTORY of the league?
In the same logic, if winning a championship in the NBA is improving someone's life or making him feel so proud he has to talk about it years afterwards, I think he might need to reevaluate the meaning of life. Why are you even a fan? Why do you even care? It's just a game.
So are you saying that you would NOT have traded the 22 game win streak for a championship that year (or any other year for that matter)??
Because the goal is to win a championship. The number of games you win really doesn't matter. Winning streaks are fun while they last, but that's about it.
Might've overstated that part, but that hangout poll where the majority said they'd leave Cf.net forever for a championship was pretty telling. Why would someone give up decades of this forum and online friends for a championship that is over one year later and doesn't give you anything. PS You didn't address my 2nd part: What would you like more: More record winning streaks or one championship?
In a couple of years, no one will care about Jordan's dunk. It may get mentioned here and there when there is another great dunk. The first thing people mention about teams and players is how many championships they won, not how many great dunks or winning streaks they had.
The Miami Heat will most likely break our 22 game streak bc they are playing really good basketball and everyone is remarkably healthy, but im sure that not what the Heat care about as much as repeating as champs... Im more impressed on How are Rockets managed to pull off that feat...without Yao, and TMac carrying us...Miami has three bonafide superstars that are playing at an extremely high level...Everyone is talking about Lebron's out of this world play, but i think we are overlooking dangerous Wade is playing...he is hella efficient in his mid range game shooting well over 50%...
we will still be owners of a 22 game winning streak in a disappointing season which saw Yao Ming shut it down so he could be healthy in the Olympics and a Rockets team choke home court advantage away in the playoffs. they can't take that away from us!
I'm with Easy on this. You all do understand that your entire fandom is based on some arbitrary form of pride rooted in the accomplishments of a team that you made no real contribution to in terms of performance? I understand the championship is the prize given out each year, but there are absolutely other accomplishments that are worth being proud about. As for whether the streak was better than winning a championship or not, that's also subjective. I will say that statistically speaking, it is much more rare for a team to win 22 games in a row than to win an NBA championship - every season, someone wins an NBA championship. Only 2 teams in the history of the league have won 22 games in a row. If you don't take pride in that, why take pride in an NBA championship? After all, what impact does it really have on your personal life?
"And now you're 2008 Win Streak Record Holders, The Houston Rockets" doesn't sound as good as "And now you're 2008-2009 NBA World Champions, The Houston Rockets"
lol what win streak record holders? it's currently the second longest winning streak ever, soon to be broken. big deal! the thing I like in all of this is that Boston can be spoiler, again, just like when they beat us.
my point exactly (from my first post in this thread) You know whats even more rare than a 22 win streak? a 33 Win Streak.
you know what's even more rare than an NBA championship? 17 NBA championships...which is how many the Celtics have. Pretty sure the Rockets are never going to break that record.
Not asking them to break that record. All im asking is for one in the modern era, So we as fans can stop reflecting on the 93-94, 94-95 Titles (and the 22 win streak, the best thing we have as fans in the modern era)
