Well you can gauge the man's intelligence. His propensity to blame others , ability to learn from mistakes. He was a loser as a GM and as a coach.
And when he was fired he was still clueless.

What does that have to do with anything?

Ok so I will ask again. Do you understand what a character reference is?

[Copied from another thread cuz i'm lazy]

McHale took over that team and led them to a MUCH BETTER RECORD than Flip Saunders that year.
Flip Saunders (25-26), Kevin McHale (19-12)

Both times he took over the Wolves, they had a much better record after McHale took over.

We have McHale THE COACH on our team, small track record as it is. McHale THE GM is NO MORE. We might as well be talking about Daryl Morey's past track record as a coach to evaluate his GM'ing (of course he has NONE. But it is to say that its not that relevant to his current role)

People who bring up 'Bleacher report' fail to distinguish what is fact vs what is fiction.

That it was a bleacher report does not separate it from the fact that those were McHale's transactions.

Here's an interesting tidbit about Mchale's coaching record in Minnesota.

He took over for two different coaches during each respective season:

Under Flip Saunders (25-26, .490). Under Kevin McHale (19-12, 0.613)

Under Randy Wittman (4-15, .210). Under Kevin McHale (20-43, .317)

    Notice a trend?

20-43 coaching a team he assembled, while Dwayne Casey which he fired was 20-20.

How about the below then ...

We'd rather believe he's suddenly become a great coach, having developed a brand new offensive philosophy that just happens to reflect Morey's statistical approach, and that everything related to in-game substitutions, rotations, not playing to players' strength, 9-18 record on games decided by 8pts or less, horrible away record, even worse record on back-to-backs (poor minutes management), worst western conference record for teams in the playoff chase, collapse down the stretch last year with a veteran team, issues with Lowry last year, playing small-ball down the stretch despite needing rebounds and having Dalembert and Camby on the roster, playing small ball and believing his SFs played like horse**** because they didn't rebound like a big man, not playing Asik for many crucial games final moments, porous defense only saved by Asik, and recent losses to teams sub-.500 playing small ball down the stretch ...

... we'd rather believe all this is due to the team being young, and that McHale had suddenly become a great talent evaluator, X&Os guy ... basically a great Head Coach.

And that McHale should get all the credit.

So ... we'd rather not click into your link, and prefer to reach into the stratosphere of the unproven to believe McHale is the reason for the Rockets success this year.

Mchale the GM had no problem throwing his coach under the Bus when his blunders as GM were the cause of the timberwolves downfall. Now Mchale the Coach , has no problems throwing his players under the bus when its his coaching blunders that are dragging the team down. Ironic.

There's another guy that is a pretty crappy x's and o's coach, feels it's generally unimportant because you can just hire someone else to do it.

Oh and he won 11 championships with that mentality.

Al Jefferson was drafted by Celtics and traded to the T-Wolves as a part of package for KG

McFail is better as a coach than as a GM, that's for sure. But he was that horrible as GM, that you can say that it's not that hard to be a better coach
