This. Ibaka has the luxury of contesting shots because of Perkins as well as Westbrook/Durant are great at rebounding for their positions.

That particular list isn't about interior defense, that's why.
If you are getting heavy minutes at PF defending mid range jumpers or you don't help much when guys blow by for layups, you are going to have a good score on that list. Basically, stick next to low % shots at midrange, run away from layups = high place on the list.

It would be better if instead of just looking at FG% on shots faced, it was FG% on shots faced relative to FG% from that zone (on the season) for the player taking the shot.

Sooooo, wonder how many shots Asik could alter and block if Love were cleaning up the defensive boards?

It's quite the opposite, Yao averages 20/10 with 2 blocks. Defensively Yao is way ahead of Asik with his intimidation impact, and it's why we are consistently top5 defensive team then.

Varejao is last because his team sucks, not because he is a bad defender. Same with Asik. Our defense is really bad

blocks does not mean your the best defender

d is more complicated then that...

its about reducing the opponent shot to low percetage

Andrea Bargnani the 2nd best interior defender? That's all I need to know that bull**** analytics is bull****.

This. Why settle for a mid-range jump-shot when Bargs has rolled out the red carpet from the top of the key to the rim ? Also, this stat is significant only when Bargs is within 5 feet of his man, so this can be attributed to small sample size effects.

Compared to Asik's Chicago days, he is getting fewer block shots per possession, but also fouling a lot less and rebounding more. Pretty clear what is happening here: HOU cannot afford for Omer to get into foul trouble, so he pften just jumps straight up when contesting shots rather than try to block everything as he did in Chicago. Playing this style also keeps him in rebounding position more often. Moreover, not fouling keeps opponents off the FT line, which is likely a team emphasis (FTs are highly efficient shots).

The guy still makes a huge difference defensively, especially when HOU gets to set up its D rather than allowing the other team transition buckets before the center can get down there.

Yup. He's not blocking shots by design, not because he can't. If the Rockets could ever find a decent backup, or anyone else who can clean up the boards, you will see a more aggressive Asik. The Chicago version.

Also, IMO Asik's bad showing in opposing shooting department is a matter of us giving up way too many transition points. Too many teams get good shots off of fast break or secondary break, and Asik's defensive impact is lessened on such possessions.

    edit: wrong thread.

in a slower game with good perimeter defenders, asik is a proven defensive center. his deficiencies have alot to do with our style of play.

    Wow...don't know what to say.

If there is ONE thing on this planet that Jermaine O'Neal does well it is play some good defense.

You might want to watch him work a bit more. Im assuming you don't really.

I wonder how Ben Wallace did it? In his prime he was getting 13 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and only 2 fouls.
