Not based on numbers or rings or anything else of value when comparing two players.

Jordan didn't even make the playoffs in his last year in the league playing in the weakass (L)eastern Conference. Just saying.

lol Great 3 clutch shots even though 2 of them were prayers that just went in. He's playing great at 34, but it will all be forgotten when he doesn't make the playoffs or loses in the 1st round. And it will all be remembered that they are mostly in this position because of kobes hero ball all year.

I feel like people actually prefer comparing LBJ to MJ and Kobe to MJ. That's how much they hate Kobe.

Doesn't matter though, in the end true Kobe fan's know he's the greatest for all the intangibles that lead to success in any field and in life.

This is probably the first time I've come close to actually saying he's better than MJ. He'll never touch what MJ did off the court for basketball and nike, but on the court, as far as basketball playing ability is concerned, he's knocking on MJ's door. Loudly. Mainly, because MJ never killed it like this from that far.

And don't give me the rings/mvp stuff, we all know they would be a lot closer in hardware if Kobe played back then or MJ played now.

    40 page thread comin' up!

I hear you. For me, looking up the stat sheet is enough. I can not tolerate watching their games especially their home games. The announcers (Stu Lantz), the douche fans, the dimmed lights at home, Jack Nicholson...they all annoy the hell out of me (except the Laker girls )

The whole Laker subculture where there are fans in every city - I hate it. I respect Kobe but the Lakers have a beetle cult stranglehold in the NBA like the Yankees do in baseball.

Kobe stunk it up on one of the most stacked teams ever and was chucking his way to the lottery. Four clutch performances later, Kobe is lawd mamba and better than Jordan (who I personally dislike btw). Gotta love kobetards and how they forget that MJ was the league MVP at 34.

And that's why Kobe fans are, in general, 12 year olds or dumb asses.

"Every stat says he's worse than MJ.""it doesn't matter, we love fans know in our hearts that he's number 1!"

It's like cheering for your son in a YMCA game. You know he isn't the best in the Rec league, maybe not even the best in the game, but you still love him anyway.

It is okay, just don't try to fool others. The only people you'd convince are already "true" Kobe fans anyway!

You're right, but unlike a son, I don't have paternal feelings as a reason to like Kobe. I like Kobe because he is akin to the likes of Bruce Wayne, Bruce Lee, etc. I don't see Kobe as a superior being to anyone, but rather he's the player I have most respect for and learned the most from in terms of work ethic and drive. I don't desire to meet him, or suck up to him. I'm not offended when people trash him, and don't automatically trash those who do. All I try to do is advocate for an appreciation for a type of player, and more importantly, a type of mentality that you just don't see in today's league anymore.

Calling people "dumbasses" and "Kobetards" shows more about your own lack of peace than anything else. I don't even know why people hate Kobe. If this world was devoid of insecurity, there would be no Kobe-haters.

That's not what I meant. I meant simply MJ playing now and Kobe back then.
Look at how Lebron is playing. There's no way he doesn't take some hardware from MJ. If Kobe played back then, he would have basically been MJ back then, who was going to stop him? Dream and Houston maybe, but they had their own problems getting past Seattle and with age.

I know there's a lot of variables involved to make the comparison, but I think it's pretty clear Kobe would have accomplished more, than he has now, if the Lakers, and the league, were as stable as the bulls and the league were back then.
