Are you this dense? Welcoming him with open arms has nothing to do with him as a player. He came from China to a completely new country, culture and environment. Meeting new people, speaking a new language etc. Was his ethnicity a problem when he came over? Did Yao have trouble adjusting because people were giving him a hard time for being Chinese or having a different culture? This has nothing about his skills, this is about welcoming a person to a new country and culture.

So we are switching topic yet once again? It's not about everyone accepting and welcoming him as the top draft pick to the team, which was obviously debunked. Now it's about the city welcoming a young man from a foreign country? I thought we are talking about basketball, basketball players, Rockets team, in particular.
Lately, I think about Yao's skill this way: If Asik had Yao's shooting touch, he'd be a 25/12 max player.
When did we switch topics, you were the one who tried to bring Lin into this. Go re-read what I said, I made it clear and never mentioned his basketball prowess at all. Had you bothered to read my posts, instead of inferring things I never said, this wouldn't be confusing. You are the most petty person I have seen on this board.
I talked about your posts obviously I disagree with, while you kept talking about me. Do I know you? Do you think our roads will ever cross in life, with your attitude?
tell me about it, i go to UH which is the second most diverse school in the nation and they have this "UH confessions" facebook page with like ten thousand members. half of the time they are talking **** about someone of a different ethnicity doing something they didnt like etc. im a minority, and i occasionally hear comments about asian's from some random white person or some random fellow minority, and its like they expect me to go along with it but im like uhh... but i have definitely noticed there are is the "good ole boy" clique at the university and professional level who are exclusive and are generally racist ass-hat's. i ****ing hate that clique, but unfortunately a lot of those dumb-asses are within the top echelons of the power structure. i think yall know who im talking about, those are the guys you find out on washington lol
I remember this great video of Yao arriving in Houston. There was a mob at the airport and then Stevie joked with him at the Rockets' training facility (I think) saying something like "didn't I tell you we'd get here" or something. I can't find it because, well looking for anything on an iPad sucks. Would love to see this again if anyone can find it. Will rep.
I remember it was on Rockets.com with his airport arrival and press conference. Here's a short clip: http://www.nba.com/video/channels/originals/2011/07/20/20110720_yao_arrival.nba/index.html and the old Rockets.com page: http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Yao_Ming_Video_Clips-55819-34.html Ahh, miss the big fella.
Great journey with him. People talk about other Rockets players having to overcome adversity. Expectation and pressure are nothing to laugh at. Yao did it with grace and a smile. I loved that about him. Eddie Griffin was also in that video. I don't think he had the same type of expectations and he had his own set of demons but he is an example of the toll that the spotlight can take. I don't say that as a criticism of Eddie but to praise Yao. Great man, great Rocket.
What's most laughable is when those same racist kids demand that minorities "assimilate" into the "traditional" culture, as if they'd openly welcome and accept as equals those minorities. I'm sure the frat bros would definitely treat those Chinese international kids without thinly-veiled mockery or condescension.
I believe Yao outplayed Howard every time the two of them played against each other. Yao was not only the better player, but also the better man and better G. Seriously, who'd you rather hang out with?

Dude now you are just scrambling to save face. Give it up. So you are now saying people accepted his culture while dissing him as a player? You have no idea how much Yao was dissed here.
