maybe tinman has been a LOF in disguise this wholetime!!!! if you take out the tooth on the letter "t" it sure as hell looks a lot like an "l" therby making his screen name "linman"
Opened thread expecting to roll eyes and shake head but came away appreciating the humor. repped.
Not to spoil the fun, but there IS a big distinction between being Asian and Asian-American, and the failure to distinguish the two has often been the source of anti-Asian racism in America.
Actually Yao was dismissed by ex-players and media "experts" a lot, again and again. The Barkley kissing scene was famous, but Chuck is straight-forward honest person and owns up to his own words. Even after Yao has established himself in the league, ex-players like Reggie Miller still takes all the opportunities to downplay his impact. Coaches working in the media, like Hubbie Brown or Doug Collins or Mike Fratello, are the ones recognizing Yao's strength and impact early and consistently. Sure, Yao always had his shortcomings, but those real experts are knowledgeable, experienced, and OPEN enough to see how he brings much more good than bad. Those are actually the same coaches who recognized nice parts of Lin's game, early and consistently. They didn't declare his ceiling by dismissing his flashes as fluke. As Hubbie said, vision is not something you can teach. As a PG, you either have it or not. They treat young players with something unique with open mind and good will, which you can't say so about some fans here.

that and immigration policies such as the 1965 immigration act which set precedent, as it changed the quota system for accepting visas based on skilled labor. hence we wanted more skilled labor coming from asia, which exasperated the stereotypes we give to asian americans as being "smart". this has to do with american this immigration policy, as these migrant workers became successful and therefor were able to provide a good life for future generations of their families. this is different in the case of mexicans, as mexicans are a source of cheap unskilled labor, as were africans during the slave trade. asians were also discriminated upon pre civil rights, and immigration policy also sought to prevent asian women from coming to america, which minimized the growth of asian communities. asian migrant workers in the 19th and early 20th century could not purchase property or intermarry with caucasian women. family reunification among asians was not really addressed until the 1965 immigration act and homestead act, because we only wanted asian labor rather than asian citizens. although coming back to the skilled labor quota, there are still similar incentives for skilled laborers from eastern asia to come here and receive technical degrees in the math and sciences. which is why you see so many asians( chinese, indians, koreans, pakistanis etc.) coming to america in order to receive these degrees. i think this also generates resentment among american's who see these technical degrees being studied by asians rather than americans. although this has everything to do with american educational standards which have been on the steady decline for at least the past twenty years. i think the issue of technical degrees in general is an interesting one, because obama has been saying we need more jobs in the fields of math and science. in essence you are labeled by your degree plan, which determines your potential output as a worker in the corporate world and ultimately your salary. although what is not being discussed is the drastic decline we see in fields relating to the arts which have significant influence on cultural growth. in the 1960's etc, getting a degree in the arts was not a bad thing but now the emphasis is on these technical degrees which americans are not getting but those studying from abroad are getting. so who are getting these degree's in the arts? not those who are in need of money, but those who have money and go to top IV league schools and general set policy and immigration quotas lol
