The problem with Journey is I don't think most people could tell you a more recent song they wrote. They are still all about their classic hits they did with Perry imo. I'm sure they have made plenty of new music since then...I just couldn't tell you a single song from any of that. I guess their real fans could. Is that any of you? To me, they are nothing more than a band touring on music of the past, i.e. a nostalgia act. It's a nice story for Arnel but, to me, Journey is about as irrelevant as it gets as far as being current. Sure, go tour with REO, Styx, Quiet Riot, whatever, etc. . At some point, these bands have to expire right? lol. The doomsday for Journey will be when Neil Schon kicks the bucket I imagine. But, they would probably try to replace him I imagine. I could see them finding some guitarist on Youtube to replace him.

That's fine by me. U2 still makes $100m a year touring and I have no idea what they've done recently. I'm good with all their old songs. Actually, I hate going to hear groups trying to pimp new songs while I'm trying to relive my youth.

I checked their website, and this is showing tonight and tomorrow only at the Alamo Drafthouse on 249 and Louetta. It's pretty far from me, but I'm gonna call them and see if they have tickets available and make the drive out there tomorrow.

It also says it'll be "Available on Demand and Digital on March 9."

No kidding. People don't flock to Journey concerts to hear their new material. They wanna hear the 70's and 80's material. Nothing wrong with that, either.

Why is that a problem? Like what, you'd like them if they were trying to "stay current"? They're only worth seeing if they are still trying to "break ground?" Do you know how many great songs they have? Easier to put on a great show with that than "solja boy" or "harlem shake" or whatever you might call "relevant."

These dudes are probably 60. So you're not a fan, big whoop. Many are/were, and obviously people want to go see them play the songs they know. Apparently the singer can hit the mark, so the show will be good for those that like the songs they play. Yes, it will be nostalgic, but it will also be very good.

I'm going to see Yes later this month (oddly enough with a young replacement singer). Have you seen those guys? At least journey looks like they are living. Yes actually does put out new music, and I've heard a song or two (not bad), but I'm going to see them play three of their old albums in their entirety.

Relevant schmelevant. You ever seen "Heart of the Sunrise" live? I'm just sayin.

I saw Journey on Frontiers. It was a good show.

Might as well tell Roger Waters to get some new material instead of doing The Wall Live Tour.

Umm "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" won nine Grammy Awards. Unless you don't think 9 years ago in their 37 year career isn't "recent" enough. Their newest album "No Line on the Horizon" still sold like 5 million copies and sold out every venue in their tour playing new songs.

Maybe problem isn't the right word. I just find it kind of weird that none of their newer music has not come anywhere close to the mark that the stuff they did with Perry 3 decades ago did after having gone through multiple albums/singers since. If anything, the problem would have to be with them not being content that their newer music isn't as popular.

I didn't say there is anything wrong with them playing hits and fans wanting to go see them play their hits. My opinion is bands want to be better than they were and have their new music do well. I just don't see that being the case here. Again, nothing particularly wrong with that. You'll have defined them strictly on the basis of hits made 3 decades ago even though they have made plenty of music since. That's fine but I'm sure the band would have liked to have had it turn out otherwise and better.

Did I say no bands should ever play again or tour if they have no new hits and all their hits were from way back when? No, I didn't.

Also, isn't Neil (their guitarist) the primary songwriter for all their hits and music since? Or, was Perry integral in the development of those songs? I guess if they got a guy like Arnel going forward...they shouldn't have any problems delivering new hits if Neil is still the primary songwriter. Eh? lol

I didn't say they haven't made any new music or even that it hasn't done well. I'm just saying I don't really know them. I'm still living in Joshua Tree and Achtung days.

No, you said U2 should stop touring because they haven't had any new hits. We know what you meant. :p

The Beatles greatest hits were in the span of just 3-4 years of their overall time together. There is no guarantee that they would have continued to crank out great songs decades after they started if they were still together. That's just how most bands are.

When I was a kid on Okinawa some of the BEST bands on the island were Philippian. It was cool listening to them practice and then run home to put on the album and realize they copied the song PERFECTLY. Very serious musicians coming from the Philippines.

The beatles greatest hits span the entire time they were together.. So more like 7 years if you count 1st album to last. There is no period in the beatles catalogue where they weren't cranking out gems.

That being said, you're right there's no guarantee they would have continued at that level and almost certainly they would not have.
