http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=234961 Here's the link for what I was talking about. It seems like any team has 3 defensive breakdowns during a game and this is being used to label us a "gimmick" team. Isn't the main problem transition D?
No he doesn't. He needs to work on his defense but he is not close to giving it all back on the defensive end. The Rockets would be a 25 win team without Harden.
We need a real defensive coach, assist this team & Machail. Can Morrey do this? Or it's just Machail's call?
Meh. Looks to me like Mike Prada had his mind made up to write something about the Rockets defense beforehand. Breakdowns happen to the best of them and the highlighted breakdowns that did occur are just mistakes on the part of the players. Garcia isn't supposed to double from the baseline and Parsons isn't supposed to double Dirk at the free-throw line. If you watch the first highlighted sequence again, you'll see that Prada is reaching and not really addressing the issue on hand (D-Mo releasing up court just after Harden looked his and Marion's way, giving Harden the impression that his box-out responsibility is Mayo up top). Some of the Rockets players do have a tendency to ball-watch, but Delfino losing Carter for a second had nothing to do with anything breaking down on that other possession. The Rockets scheme is not the problem and defensive breakdowns are to be expected with a team as young and unfamiliar with each other as this one. Guys will have to be more disciplined going forward, but calling the Rockets a gimmick team is pretty ignorant. Maybe next year. I'll be happy if I can come close to completing the Rockets offensive playbook. Sadly, I'll be limited time-wise fairly soon.
I have seen this all season long, Harden just stays there and watches the ball movement and leave his man wide open. I am also surprised that his man can fly by him so easily. Please dont say I am bashing him. I blame this on the coach, dont they study the video after every game and learn fom the mistakes? Lin usually guards his man well though sometimes he tends to overhelp defense a bit. Almost the worst defensive team in the league, WTF!
yeah, if Asik makes us a top-10 defense, why wasn't he in during the closing minutes of every game? McHale doesn't believe those stats?
Great article. I've noticed the team tends to clog the paint in exchange for open perimeter shots for the other team. Lin in particular tends to over help on defense while Harden gives minimal effort.
Every effing guy on our team has a problem wth this. In nba2k our team defense awareness would be a 50. Is it that hard to keep an eye on your man?!?!? you would think this would be like something thats worked on eevryday. Maybe a fine for every backdoor cut allowed. Embarassing.
Not to make excuses, but we haven't really had an opportunity to establish a consistent rotation, especially once the starters come out. Players will look confused out there alot of the time because they haven't played together enough. Morey even said all this turnover makes it very hard on the coaches, but it's necessary until you have the key roster pieces in place.
Coaches need to make Harden more accountable on defense. Or rest him more in the 2nd half. He's playing too many minutes on a bum knee. We don't want that to become chronic. If Harden goes down with a more serious injury this year, I'm gonna fire McHale myself!!!
Bad defense has become a culture on this team which is indicative of bad coaching. Rox defense at times is embarrassingly bad. A team that was being held accountable for their defense would not approach defense like the Rox do. Coach Sampson, who is the defensive coach if I'm not mistaken, was on 790 am earlier today and seem frustrated too but expressed as long as McHale was fine with what was going on out there he just had to deal with it.
Rebound, outlet pass, fast break, slam dunk...oh wait we're talking about our defense. Oh in that case, watch the ball go in. Defensive rebound by Asik. That is our defense. lol. i hope we make the playoffs!
