Last game vs the mavericks i noticed rick put full pressure d on our point gaurds all game. Mchale waited a full 12 min to do the same. I mean if our defense is so important to our offense and now that we have 3 pg why dont we full court pressure the start. I can understand not doing it with lin maybe. Why not have harden back to help bring the ball up too ? I mean spending 7 seconds bringing the ball up doesnt promote much ball movement. Point full court d from our pgs give teams 10-15 seconds to make it work, force and pressure them into bad shots, long rebounds, turnovers . I know nothng groundbreaking but seems logical. Typing on phone so forgive errors and move if needed

    Full court pressure.... hmmm...

Its not something the Rockets typically do because playing at this pace, you need everyone to sprint back on defense to fortify the paint first and foremost. Which is why If I was coaching against the Rockets, I would look to see if I could get open 3's early in the shot clock.

Carlisle did try and press the Rockets guards a little bit as a smart move to try and slow down their pace. Only when McHale and Co. realized that the Mavs were beating the Rockets at their own game did he explore pressing too to well... slow down the Mavs.

If the Rockets had more of half court game, you would probably see more pressing from our guards. But sense the pace is so frantic, I believe the logic is for the guards to help get back to the paint for the 3, 4, and 5 which might be taking awhile to get back on D.

These next few weeks are going to be interesting because (like last year) teams will really put the Rockets offense to the test with some tactical defensive game-play. IMO, there are ways to stop the Rockets offense. Lets just hope they can secure enough wins in the next two weeks to avoid a major slump in the last 2 weeks of the season like last year.... when teams finally figured out how to guard the Rockets.

Like last year in the stretch before the playoffs shows, team often pay attention to what works, and what doesn't work when game planning. Lets hope the Dallas game isn't the start of teams "figuring out" how to beat the Rockets at their own game.

Except that the Mavs don't depend primarily on freaking Mike James and Darren Collison to make plays, Carlisle is not McSuccess. It's just not worth the hassle to play full court D on those two scrubs.

I wonder if the Rockets would do better if Morey replaced McHale and hired some of our posters to coach the team instead.

And if they happen to break the full court press, they will have an easy layup or a slam dunk ?
Good defensive teams like the Spurs and Pacers rarely use the full court press, they would rather run back on defense.

So our team has problems with transition defense, and your solution is to full court press them????? Are you ****ing kidding? This thread should be entitled "CF thread starting decision making"...

The other day on the most recent Rocketscast, Brent Barry had some great things to say in response to the question about Finch's "No freedom on defense, all the freedom in the world on offense" gameplay philosophy. Its worth listening to again.

I do like Finch as a coach, but I do have questions about the freedoms on offense leaking over on the defensive side of the ball. In a perfect world, it would be nice to have a system where you could sort of turn it off, and turn it back on when needed.

At the beginning of the regular season, its great, and you can win alot of games, but its only a matter of time that at some point in the season, teams are going to force you to score in the half court... oh and if you are going to score in the full court, you have to play defense in the full court. The Rockets have a decent half court defense, but rarely do I see anything groundbreaking defensively in the full court like... DING, DING, DING... THE PRESS.

This idea of incorporating the press might be something for the Rockets coaches to look at.

Hey I will give the OP props. At least the thread is about basketball, and not some drama conspiracy theory.

I do think there is alot the Rockets coaches can learn about that Mavs game. They truly beat them at their own game. This isn't college... obviously you can't full court press an NBA team. That's ridiculous.

However, some form of the press might not actually be a terrible idea. Since we are going into a stretch where the Rockets are going to be put to the test, it might not be a bad idea to try a few new schemes to at least try and throw teams off a little bit.

Do you watch the games? Beverly and TD, when he was here, have always pressured full court.

Lets face it, if the PG/SG run back as the last line of defense to defend against the break... are they really going to stop anyone anyways???

There is no 3 Pg, only 1 pg, the only 2 are SG that put into a PG because of their height. I have not see them do a full court assist or any of their assist highlighted in nba.com
