McHale made a questionable call last night and it blew up in his face. I'm not ready to fire the guy over it, but it is becoming a noticeable trend.
I like Jeremy, but for that stat you have to keep in mind that he gets pulled in the 4th anytime he is really sucking; i.e. that stat is artificially inflated by McHales decision for no Jeremy.
He actually wasn't playing that badly. However, I do think Beverley was making a bigger impact defensively. Keep in mind that defense was the major factor for our win against the mavs last game.
Are we really trying to face the spurs or okc in the 1 round. If not then we can not afford these bone headed coaching decisions and give away wins and take loses. The warriors had to win on a klay thompson 3 a the buzz. We have to keep pace, the dubs play a home heavy schedule the rest of the way. The 6 seed is obtainable. If it wasnt for the coaching giving away games early in the year the 5 seed is probalbly in reach.
Man, I seriously read your posts and you sound rational by claiming data come first as stat geek, but then you just turn the focus on something like no synergy can be available ijn game-time, only "gut and feeling" by coach. WTF? Then it's not the reason you bring as the first place, it should be "should the attributes of a coach, hence something like the rotations correlated with the actual game results?" Didn't our beloved Morey excelled in this aspect? So, why have to fight? Actually, I understand many vets or so called LOH aren't really hate Lin. Some of them just can't withstand the attention and love that Lin drawn. Some just want to be "wisdom" against the tide especially with some naive and immature LOFs who just care about Lin's stat. But being rational, deep down, we know the reason what we are fighting for. I love Lin, but I won't give a **** as long as rockets win like in Orlando. I know he's going to be down for a while after being benched in crunch time but if the team won, you sacrificed, nobody's perfect including the coach. And the world's always unfair, swallowed it and walk on. BUT, if the team lost, and the patterns continued, we wanted to know why. It's not a coincidence only 1/3 close games won, didn't everybody knows what rockets going to do in crunch time? Superstar ISO. Sometimes it worked, like 1/3. Not including the games LIN just "****ed that up" like at home vs Thunder. The coach didn't say a thing about 29, 8, 3 TOs from your PG, he said"we are trying to win, not rather having a 29 pts and 9TOs game." And, sad thing is, the coach didn't need to prove his right by benching Lin. He just needs to play Lin, when it's lost, he can still blame it on Lin. But I guess he can't handle the fact that Lin may once again become the hero. And the best scenario for him, is somehow to grasp wins without Lin's shining. He succeeded in Orlando,vs Bobcats? He said he rides with the hot hands like Delfino, Douglas, Beverly, "he was playing good" etc. But how many times Lin got 5,6 assists in 1st half or 8 points 3 assists in 7 mins and then being benched for more than 10 minutes. Hot hand my ass. Humanity is gold. Thats it.
you don't like Jeremy, donot cheat youself. Lin either play the last 6-7mins@4th quarter or dont get to play at all, inflated my ass.
Those LOH trying to pass as LOFs make the most laughable of trolls. It's usually: "I like Lin but BULL****".
For that stat block, james harden had 31 games, Jeremy 26. Harden is always in if things are tight, even when shooting 5/17 like last night. Plus, he's frequently the one shooting, even when 5/17 like last night. If I didn't mention it, he was 5/17 last night. If Jeremy is shooting that bad and toney douglas or beverly is available, guess who plays? And bad shooting nights happen to everyone. That has an effect on stats. That said, Lin is generally clutch in the fourth quarter and my personal opinion is, barring injury, it is stupid to leave him out in the last 6 minutes of play of a close game.
Of course, it is always possible that even people who like Lin kinda blink in stupification when they read some of the consipiracy theories propagated in the game threads and elsewhere. Clearly McHale is not incredibly impressed with Lin, and thinks he is more or less interchangable with other point guards. Leaping from that to, well, wherever the leap goes is silly. His opinion and mine differ, but hey, he knows more basketball than I do. Maybe I'm wrong. In this case, I like Lin but I don't like misusing stats. Leaving Lin out of the fourth has an impact on the stats. Not a massive one, but a clear one.
I wonder if any of our stat geeks can do an analysis of all our games showing who played down the stretch (Lin, Asik, basically the current starters), and see how many games we actually won/lose when relying on on starters and how many games we won/lose when relying on two or more then bench players? Any takers?
Yeah, I honestly can't say the defense would have been worse with Lin. Asik was struggling when matched up against Wright, but was really controlling the boards. D-Mo seemed like the only one that had to sit for getting torched by Marion so often. I'm just saying I get the reasoning behind his decision. Especially since it has won a few games for us earlier in the season.
I will keep calling him McFail until he is a proven winner. He always blame player for losses. Do he didn't deserve any praise for team won either.
I love that CF has so many people who selflessly share their opinions. Sometimes, I find that stronger opinions make for more interesting and invigorating conversation. Better yet, is when people back up their opinions with clear reasoning, hard facts, and respectful dialogue. Name calling isn't necessary to make your point, or to maintain your dignity.
I understand the statistical part of evaluating McHale, but in terms of the purely coaching part, I have to agree that his rotations and crunchtime decision-making are far from reasonable. I am not an NBA coach, but I have coached middle school, high school and AAU ball, so I have a decent grasp of selecting rotations, choosing the best offense for a team, and so on. While the Rockets have chosen the run-and-gun philosophy, they are also severely limited in half-court, on-the-fly sets, which I attribute to his coaching I also understand the whole "ride the hot hand" philosophy, but most of the time, identifying and exposing mismatches on given plays and sequences determines the outcome of a game.. I'm fine with calling him a "motivator," if that's what the cool term is at the moment. I do think that's McHale's coaching ceiling, if he really does motivate our players. As a Rocket fan, it does suck feeling like you have to settle, when you were around the offensive brilliance of Adelman and the defensive genius in JVG. It's okay to want more and to be critical of the rotations that have yielded losses. I hate always having to bring up our playoff run last year, but taking Sammy D and Camby out when they were changing shots and getting us the lead. We lost with Scola and PatPat being our defense in the paint...I still shrug at that. Mchale is a good guy, but I still don't believe the hype.
It's ok to want Dragic and Lowry back (and criticizing Lin for not being as good or better than them), but it's not ok to be unhappy with McHale and wish for some of the offensive brilliance of Adelman or defensive effectiveness of JVG. Scratching heads ...
This needs a bump. Seriously people. It's not creative. It's not funny. It's childish. It's offensive to his family. It's offensive to his deceased daughter. It's offensive all around.
