I bet Lin leads the league in most 3s waved off, prob in NBA history since they just started these camera review business in recently years. He must have at least 5, 6 of these this season.
The Lin basket was a huge overturn...because if that three did count...the Rockets wouldve been up 1 with 28 seconds left...So that basket was game changing...The Refs overturned something that usually is let go... Regardless the Rockets had a lot of chances to win...they were up two at about 3:30 left (and guess who had a set shot...James Harden-wide open). Harden is the best set shooter other than Delfino...But the pressure the Dallas defense put on Harden having to create his own shot cost us the game...Harden vs Dallas 5...Harden vs Better coaching equals loss...
Last I checked, in any sports, or civil, or criminal cases, you need hard evidence without reasonable doubt to overturn previous decision. Of course, NBA is a totally different animal. No major sports in the world that casual fans remember the names and faces of all the leading officials. That happens ONLY in NBA, because officials made themselves bigger than the game. That being said, you cannot do anything about it. However, I am surprised that quite a few are actually arguing hard how it should NOT be counted, despite missing hard evidence. Ironically, some of the them are those usually busy waiving the "team only" flag, as if 3 points by Lin wouldn't be counted towards team total.
Can someone clarify something for me: Is the NBA replay like the NFL replay in which you must have conclusive evidence to overturn or is it that they watch the replay and make their best guess? On the Lin 3 and the change of possession late in the 4th I personally saw no conclusive evidence to overturn either call, I could see how they would give the Mavs the ball on the late play if they are just using their best guess after replay. But the refs watched the late replay for 3 minutes, then stepped to the side and discussed for a minute and then gave the Mavs the ball, I don't see how that is conclusive. Side question: can they overturn everything on the reviews, because another review in the 4th they called it Houston ball with 2.4 seconds left but then in the replay they saw it hit the rim and confirmed it was Houston and gave them a new shot clock.
I don't agree. Fans (and media) can do something about it, if they keep pushing. Look at the NFL -- the league genuinely believed it could get by without its regular officials, and did not attempt to seriously negotiate, until the enormous uproar after the Green Bay-Seattle "Fail Mary" game. If fans make enough of a fuss, it can be dealt with. The league doesn't want its credibility to look like the WWF. The problem is, there's a macho culture in much of sports that "blaming officials is for losers". I've heard it a million times. They'd rather point to something their team didn't do -- and unless you shoot 100% from the field and FT line, there's always something more you could have done. And the refs slide under the radar. The key is that those of us who truly understand what's going on need to continue pressing the issue. It's not about "blame", per se -- it's merely about whether a given person performs well at the job they're paid to do. If the officials don't, they should be publicly condemned for it, just as players and coaches are. If enough people do it, something will get done. It just takes time.
They made the right call. He hadn't yet snapped his wrist by the time the light started coming on. That means it was still on his fingers.
Them taking his 3 away was absolutely ridiculous. Bet ya if he was still a knick it would've counted. Ok dude,we get it Stern/Refs. Lin plays in Houston, he's Asian etc, just don't fck with my Rockets chances of making the playoffs. Go Screw the kid all you want for whatever agenda refs/nba may have. Just don't do it at the expense of a team loss. They need to remember Kobe is 34 and Harden is 23 so cut the bull shyt and accept it, this team has a new star in Harden. If they want the NBA to stay exciting for the next 10 years, they need to get their head out of their asses. Yeah I'm kinda annoyed, not for Lin but for Rockets sake.
Although it didn't count, I'm just glad that Lin made the shot. If Lin keeps improving his jump shot, he'll be a very solid player even if the Rockets traded him in the future.
3:43 pisses me off even more. Because Dirk got away with that push Harden was forced to rotate to Marion which resulted in 2 Dallas FTs. If a foul had been called by the official who was standing 2 FEET AWAY it would have been Rockets' possession and Dirk would've fouled out. Maybe the official thought Parsons was exaggerating the contact? LOL - he obviously tripped over that one guy's leg because of the push from Dirk. Enjoy your lottery picks for the next 5 years Dallas.
it's not conclusive. the ruling on the field stands! that should have been the call. And that's not the homer in me. Mavs broadcast for 2 straight minutes truly believed it wasn't going to be overruled. the nba where =/ happens.
I'm surprised they waved it off. It's very close, sure, but it seems like one of those things where the tie goes to the runner. But they did wave it off, and the replay isn't enough to say they were wrong. So, whatever.
Keep pausing the video at 1:26 (use the space bar). You will see the ball completely out of his hands with .1 on the clock. All I have is a crappy stream and I can see it. The officials have all that tech and they can't get it right.
I was at the game too, sitting baseline. Those replays were not conclusive enough to overturn the calls, but damn I guess the refs favored the home team.
This is exactly what I saw. I was watching it on LP, the Mavs broadcasters. They replayed the shot at the end of the half and even they agreed that it was good. Can someone please find a nd post the video the Mavs have. I believe stuff like this happens all the time, and the public shouldnt let this one go and ask more questions. There is no doubt in my mind that it has something to do with the Vegas lines being -1. No one talks about Tim Donaghy anymore but this must be addressed and we should continue to make this a bigger deal.
There must be a way to put these dumb er's on blast. They are trying to make some money on the side, make no mistake about that. These dumb as old refs think they can fool people by "balancing" things out on paper and with overall quota's. You got the gullible people thinking everything is always fair but in reality, these old farts don't make much money compared to players and personnel in the league. They're trying to level the playing $field$.
thats what urks me the most, both calls they overturned were inconclusive.. when its inconclusive you stick with what was called on the floor.. the reversed out of bounds call basically decided the outcome of the game..
I just wrote a letter of concern to the NBA, asking them what they are doing to keep the integrity of the game and to stop the next Tim Donaghy? Everyone here who didn't agree with the call should do the same. Lets get the NBA concerned abou this. Select Officiating in the NBA as the subjehttp://www.nba.com/email_us/contact_us.htmlct:
Exactly, if the Rockets had that 3 points, McHale would let Dallas go on a 15-2 scoring run instead of a 12-2 run ... then he would call time out.
