Per Mark Berman's twitter feed. Les Alexander reached verbal agreement with Morey for a 4 yr extension to kick off after this one. No word of team or player options or poison pill provisions within the contract.

Good that we have locked up our superstar for the long run. Hopefully this helps motivate the team toward making the playoffs.

I wonder how much Morey makes compared to other NBA general managers.

An estimate. He might be lighter now. Seems to have shed some weight preparing for the table tennis match with Jeremy Lin.

In either case, Daryl's size, BBall IQ and high motor are very important to the team.

I think this thread should be Sticky'd to the top of the GARM (and others let go to drop off), . . . although I think we may want to take off CH's "estimate" of Morey's measurements.

This is a big deal for the Rockets. First it confirms that Les Alexander is happy with the job Morey has done and the direction of the team. Second, it gives Morey the capital to makes long term moves and not have to fight for his job.

I am very pleased, now just need to lock up his staff (which is excellent) and lets see what happens this off season.

Undersized GM capable of playing big.

    Definitely Charles Barkley-est.

That's a good point about the staff. If other teams can't poach Morey, they might try to poach the guys working under him.

I'm not sure if that's entirely a bad thing, though.

On the one hand, it can hurt operations, especially in the short term, if you lose a key guy on the staff whose expertise you count on and isn't easily replaced.

On the other hand, wasn't there something written a while back that showed that FO's were more likely to do trades with "satellite" FO's where former staffers went, since a lot of trade talks are developed out of personal relationships and knowing the other side's thinking in negotiations?

He's lost considerable wieght. I've seen him in Club level a few times this season. Lost at least 40 lbs.

WOW. What other GM's could take him in a fight? Any relatively young ex players?

Excellent. I concur he is at least one of the best GM's in the league and we need someone of his caliber to make up for the fact that it's hard to sign big FA's in Houston.

Those stats make Morey sound like a defensive lineman.
