Why doesn't McHale stagger Lin and Harden's minutes anymore?

This is exactly the point, our second team run by Beverley doesn't have much offensive potential when your trying to get Parsons and Delfino to run it, they are much better at finishing off the play.

Putting Lin with Dmo, Trob, Garcia and Delfino in at the same time will help a lot.

Ahh, that's right. That makes complete sense to bench your starter 6-8, sometimes 10 min straight.

Because it doesn't matter who starts the game, it matters who finishes it. Lin ain't shiet. He's a 3rd string PG at best, so does it really matter who he gets his minutes with?

Harden is playing close to 40 mpg lately. There are not many minutes to stagger.

I don't know if it's Mchale being clueless but he prefers to run his team with certain players. You are correct though, Morey has mentioned the Harden/Lin combo, along with Friedman.

McHale used to this back when he took over when he came back from league of absence. But he has gone away from it for some absurd reason. He leaves parsons out thre to run the offense by himself with Beverly & sits Lin & Harden at the same time.

I think it's pretty telling that he'd rather have Parsons running the offense than Lin when Harden sits.

Mchale was a bad coach and GM in Minny and he is a bad coach here.

With this roster the Rockets should be doing a lot better.

The Rockets have a world class owner who spends money even for draft picks.

A top of the line stats GM who pulls rabbits out of a hat

But one of the worst head coach in the history of the NBA which negates a lot of what Morey does as the GM.

    Lineups

Lineup 1. Starting Lineup. Balanced lineup. (32% of game)

Everyone goes 100% on defensive end, including Harden.

Heavier usage shared between Harden/Lin. Harden's usage limited to help conserve energy for defensive effort.

Avoid over-helping on defense. Don't let opponent adjust to constant & predictable help/rotations.

Sub out anyone who is abused repeatedly offensively, if significantly better option exists on the bench.

Harden's overall minutes limited to whatever it takes to for him to play solid defense with this lineup (35?)

    Lin
    Harden
    Parsons
    Montiejunas/Delfino
    Asik

Lineup 2. Efficiency Lineup. (33% of game)

Everyone besides center is a reliable, great shooter

Harden can coast on D in order to drive super efficient offense as much as possible.

Ideally, you can hide poor defenders on weak offensive players. If not, try out gimmicky defense, i.e test out a streaky shooter to see if he's on, or zone defense

Try to get good help defenders in this lineup to cover up for expected breakdowns and force other team to make good passes.

Hopefully worst case is that everybody scores, don't lose any ground.

    Beverly
    Harden
    Garcia/Delfino
    Delfino/Motiejunas
    Robinson/Smith

Lineup 3. Defensive Lineup (25% of game)

Everyone is a good man defender for his matchup in this lineup, and goes hard both in covering his man, and helping in the right situations.

    Defensive anchor (Asik) required.

Decent shooting/spacing as much as possible.

Lin should be more aggressive with this lineup - Linsanity level usage.

Lin can guard the 2 if the matchup is OK there.

Lin's minutes limited to whatever it takes for him to have high usage with this lineup, and 100% defensive effort for all minutes (30?)

    Lin/Beverly
    Delfino/Lin
    Delfino/Parsons
    Parsons/Motiejunas
    Asik

Lineup 4. Crunch time lineup (10% of game)

Should be same as lineup 1, unless anyone's confidence has been obviously shot by having a really bad game.

Continue to push fast break offense.

Harden ISO only after exploring other options including transition. No walking the ball up for 12 seconds then going to Harden ISO at last second unless going for last shot of the game.

The coach tried it before and I found it to work much better than the current rotation. I suspect that the coach just doesn't want give Lin too much freedom as the main ball handler on the floor, since Lin will then play his style which the coach doesn't like.

I think the 1 and 4 positions have been over-coached. Players at the two positions seemed to be tied up and can't play to their strength.

He gets out coached and runs into the small ball lineups to try to create positive mismatch issues.
