McHale doesn't run plays--just tells them to wing it or Harden ISo in crunch time

Sampson CLEARLY has no defensive sets--just tells Asik to hold down the fort

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. What bothers me is that this is more 'gut ball' baskeball: meaning, McHale makes substitutions and 'plays' based on his personal--gut-- instinct, not necessarily through analysis or situational awareness.

McHale doesn't seem like a moreyball kind of coach...just winging it doesn't seem very analytical to me. I guess the players fall under the morey stat categories but the ringmaster is flailing with no whip

You have anything of substance in there, b/c I'm missing it. You don't understand what a coin flip is do you?

Phil Jackson is a hall of fame coach that has had plenty of talent to coach and win quite a few championships..... I'll give you a week to find something more compatible to it.....

Toney Douglas was a$$ tonight against the Warriors. Paterson shoots a clutch 3 to put the Kings up one. Then Toney goes full Harden in the next possession and bricks a 3. Lost the game.

This is what makes me so angry, Harden is an unselfish superstar. Mchale puts leaves in bench players that forces heroball. No one else is a threat, there is no ball movement whatsoever. Harden recognizes no one else could be a threat, he had no choice.

What set me off more was Parsons did not get any shots or plays called for him at all and he was on fire. Bev/Trob brought a spark on D, but it would've been useless if it was for Parsons catching fire. At least his bff Lin would've recognized the hot hand and set him up for some more shots in the crunch.

Obviously, I don't watch the Rockets play all the time like most of the fans here. In regards to the Beverly vs Lin debate, here's what I see as an outsider. Beverly is just playing his role because HE know's he's a bench player. The type of energy Beverly brings is good for 15 to 20 minutes a night. Stick the kid out there for 25 to 35 minutes and he'll burn himself out.

Perhaps that's the disconnect. Lin knows he's the starter. Even the best conditioned athlete has to pace himself. Lin plays pretty good defense but on the surface, it doesn't look like he exerts himself. He doesn't always get into people's faces. He's all about angles and being in the right position to stop a person than all out in your face. Asik seems the same way. For whatever reason McHale likes all of these energy guys in certain situations. Don't get me wrong, energy guys are useful but to a certain extent. I doubt Beverly will be a starter. Some guys are better off the bench and starting takes away their effectiveness.

    Just my 2 cents.......

    This is what torocan said:
And you will note I also complained about the benching of Asik. If the worries were about "hack-Asik", then they should have substituted him in during the final 2 minutes when you can't foul off the ball.

This is what you said in response to torocan's post:
I find it funny people are blasting Mchale for not putting him in, but no one is blaming Asik for 4-11 in fts

This is what torocan said in response to your post:
Asik is a 55% FT shooter. Going +-2 FT's is very much within normal expected variance. 2 more missed FT's than normal doesn't invalidate his massive impact in terms of rebounding, his length and ability to alter shots, nor his physical strength in terms of maintaining position around the rim

And this is what you said later:
are you going to put in your slow, generally offensively inept, bad ass defender? I can see both sides, but when you are in the bonus, is Asik someone you want to have in? Does he have a Shaq or DHoward (healthy) presence where you can look the away at his shooting inadequacy?

Let me translate this for you:
Torocan: Asik's FT% is not important here because...
    you: Asik is shooting 4/14!
Torocan: Because of.., his FT% is not important here
    you: Asik is shooting 4/14!

    I am done with you.

mchale needs to get creative or finding an assistant who is. Couple days ago when OKC beat LAC i think, durant passed it to westbrook who hit the dagger shot late. Today Boston beat Indiana with a Jeff Green lay up with .5 left after a terrific back screen and paul pierce decoy.

I've seen Melo ball the last 2-3 years, it doesnt work more often than not.

then do you like the rockets more than other teams in the NBA? maybe you shouldn't talk about NBA games because your comments are skewed, biased opinions instead of objective game analysis

It's certainly 8 million not wisely spent, if you don't want to trust it or use it fully.

Wait.. isn't the goal to win a championship and shouldn't the best be the standard???

In close games he always subbed out Farmar for Fisher in between minutes 7 and 5 left in the game.. always.

Since when is going with a lineup that is performing well and not only leading a comeback but actually got a 4th quarter lead considered "very unusual for NBA standard"?

Whatever, I don't recall seeing other coaches doing this type of sub-pattern game in and game out like McHale.

The starters always come in to close out close game, always. McHale is an inexperienced coach who might think it is cute to rely on the rookie bench players and keep praying for a win

to all those arguing that asik was subbed for trob out due to trying to avoid hack-asik, are you aware of thomas robinson's free throw percentage?

I left because the game was over and i actually have a life outside of these forums. why am i going to stick around and watch a bunch of LOFs complain about the coach and how Lin should have been playing? and i was here about 10 mins after the game was over. So when we lost with bev i was still hear. I am a fan of the rockets as a team, not one player. So go find someone else to nut hug. kthx

I could see how this could happen. Sort of like a mother never thinking her son does anything wrong. Also, though, I don't think this is the case with the poster you were replying to. That dude, based off of his posts, seems pretty objective, IMO. However, I think it has reached a point where if someone even slightly defends Lin, or states he should have been in the game at a certain time, they are immediately and at times hastily accused of being a "LOF" when it is possible they could just be giving their opinion of what they thought could have led to a better outcome for the Rockets as a Rockets fan.
