Why do people keep thinking that it was just Howard and friends for that 2009 Orlando Magic team. That team had Rashard Lewis in his prime, Turkoglu in his prime, Marcin Gortat, Reddick, Nelson, Courtney Lee. Yes Dwight was a big part of that team but no he didn't single handily carry the Magic to the finals.
It's amazing that some people are actually trying to argue that Howard isn't anything but awful on offense. Look, the bottom line is his entire offense is just dunking the ball. That's it. Defensively, he's not the same either as he used to be. He's a player that relies 100% purely and solely on athleticism and he is already rapidly losing his athletic ability. Not to mention the guy is obviously incredibly stupid and immature, and clearly does not care about winning or handling anything in a professional manner. On top of this, he's already got a bad back.......... This could potentially be the worst free agent signing of the last 10 years if the Rockets did sign him.
And this is based on what? This season with the Lakers? I'm not a die hard Dwight fan myself but i know that he would be back to his dominant self after this season and he still is by far, the best center in the NBA. There are too many factors to figure in on why he has struggled this season (coming off a major back surgery, shoulder issues, playing under MDA's system and a ball dominant player in Kobe, etc.) Don't discount the fact that he took a mediocre Orlando team to the NBA finals. Again, it's not Dwight or bust for me but if we somehow acquire his services this offseason, you'd be surprised how great this team will be.
1. You act like that matters. The difference between a 18 foot jump shot and a dunk is only the level of difficulty. Both are worth the exact same amount of points. 2. You act like Asik has a 15 foot jump shot in his game. He doesn't. It's about finishing at the rim for both players, and Howard finishes at an above average rate (60.5%) while Asik finishes at an average at best rate (54%)
dwight still has some mileage left on him, id definitely go for him. i dont like his ego, injuries, and contract but you dont pass up on a guy like dwight. but really i dont think he will come here, and i like asik a lot. this guy is a work horse, and he still has some upside to him. there are not that many stars left to acquire right now, so i think we will wait until the right opprotunity presents itself. for once we have players wanting to come to houston, good things are coming.
This is where stats does not give the entire picture. Just because Warriors has no Center like Asik to plug the paint, you can't expect a PF to do it all alone. Dude has efficiency rating of 24+ and grabs 11 rebounds a game, but he is just not big enough to play Center and play D alone. Heck, any average defender would look phenomenol playing with guys like Asik and Noah.
Carlos Defino looked good playing defense next to Asik? David Lee can't play defense. He moves out of the way on drives, and does weak fouls allows and-1s. His offensive production does not make up for his defensive deficiencies.
David Lee is not the answer. Neither is Kevin Love. In fact, no one really is looking all that great.
Huh? you are in a way making my point. Having a weak player like Delfino as PF playing out of position does lead to easy baskets. Anyway comparing David Lee who is really undersized for a center but still plays that position often and occassionally with Kaman behind him is not a true comparison. And though his net output is not phenomenol but he is positive, and is right above Asik: Production On Court/Off Court Simple Team Player Min Own Opp Net On Off Net GSW Lee 75% 20.6 18.3 +2.2 +1.2 -4.5 +5.7 HOU Asik 62% 15.9 16.3 -0.4 +4.9 -0.5 +5.4 And above Garnett, Westbrook etc.
David Lee is not leaving GS and is not the best PF available, but adding him to our current piece would be a BIG upgrade than the current team. That said, there are many other PFs who would fit in just fine and significantly improve the team.
No one should care about Dwight's ego or his classless antics. The only thing fans should worry about, if Morey decides to go after him, is his back. The guy looks like a shell of his former self, and that's not good. Kevin Love still fits the team the best as of now with Asik.
Agreed. A package to the Pelicans for Gordon to send to Minny for Love would be nice. I can see converting TRob to a lottery pick and sending that lottery pick plus TJones and some expirings to New Orleans.
hmm Josh Smith would be a better fit for us than Kevin Love or David Lee. IMO we struggle against super athletic teams like Miami and OKC, Smith can make the team close the gap on that plus he is good defender, rebounds and decent scorer etc. Get it done this offseason Morey!!
they don't need him, and they have a superstar who i don't think he will be willing to defer to. aldridge at this point or bust for me. no howard, no josh
