On every DH12 rumor thread I read, I'd say 60-70 percent of users don't want him in a Rockets uniform. I have to ask myself, why?? I understand the love that Asik gets here, I love the dude too, the dude is a defensive monster and is important to this team. But he is no Dwight Howard. The fact of the matter is Asik can be turnover prone and simply has trouble finishing. If he could finish or at least catch passes half as well as he defends, he would be a top 5 center. But he doesn't. Howard brings a serious offensive inside presence that will make teams crowd in the inside even more letting our 3 point bombers do thir thing. We wouldn't lose anything defensively, as Howard (in perhaps his worst season yet) is rebounding more than Asik. Howard is coming into his prime as well. I also understand the perception that Dwight is a punk, but he came from a horribly run team in Orlando and is now in a worse run team with a selfish star player. I seriously think he would fit wonderfully here. As for Asik, think about it. Most teams are craving a center like him. I'd imagine we could trade Asik alongside some assets for a legit power foward or even a n upgrade at the 1. Face it, clutchfans. We need to get this guy. Also, he is probably hung. Just saying.
We're better off with getting someone like LaMarcus Aldridge to go along with Asik than getting Howard and making Asik, our 25m signing, a backup C.
sign howard and keep asik as a backup. with howard's health issues it would be awesome to have a reliable backup like asik, and they can split time on the floor so neither have to play heavy minutes
Those who want this year's version of Dwight, pissing and moaning about wanting touches in the low block while shooting abysmally from the free throw line while resisting to running three pick and roll are silly.
Sure, but who says the Rockets would keep Asik if they were to land Howard? Unlike LMA, not only can you just sign Hoawrd for "free", but you have a great trade asset in Asik to package with other players and/or picks for for a stud at another position. Having Asik already on the roster is a huge positive, not a negative, with regards to potentially signing Howard.
dwight is a turnover and injury prone, unless we plan to change our fast ball and run low post isos i don,t see how he can help this team more than asik.
What Asik is doing for the Rockets is really remarkable...Asik presence alone helps improve defensively...and he is one of the most selfless players on this team...As a big man, Howard would demand the ball in the post, there by hindering Harden, and Lin's effectiveness and thereby relegating them to jump shooting guards...which is not their strengths... Asik is low maintenance...and will do anything and everything that is needed defensively and contribute offensively on the occasional pick and roll...After what Asik has shown after a full season of being healthy...Asik has clearly become the 2nd best center in the league behind Howard...But Asik isnt limited in his upside as much as Howard is...Asik can still grow...especially if he get to work on his offensive skills this offseason...Asik's potential far out weighs Howards immediate impact...Asik is a better fit for this team... What will make us a contender is at the Power forward...If any of our players become that guy, or we are able to acquire someone like a Lemarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love, we become instant contenders... What Asik is doing for our team is clearly overlooked by posters just like you...And you fail not to see what Howard isnt doing for the Lakers that have them barely clinging on to playoff hopes..
I honestly think we have our PF of the future on the team. That being said, I always thought of Dwight as an old school 4, uses the backboard on shots, stays well inside the perimeter, plays D and rebounds, isn't 7' tall.... I could see 36-38 a game for Dwight, 28-30 for Asik and 28-32 for Motie. I think having Asik and Dwight on the floor together for 14 minutes a game would be fine, early in quarters where hack-a-big wouldn't do anything but punish the other team. There would be NO scoring from the paint by the other team, and Lin/Harden would have to rest, due to no penetrating lanes. I wouldn't trade Omer Asik for anything in the NBA right now (don't take out of context, he's what a Rockets player should represent).
Asik is younger than Howard, and while Omer isn't as elite as Dwight, I think he may have less of a decline in his later years since he doesn't rely on athleticism as much as Howard does. Time can't take Omer's length and knack for smart defense and rebounding. However, time will take a lot of Dwight's athleticism - the only thing that makes him so dominant.
I understand your sentiment and I'm totally with the bring Dwight to Houston group. But, did we REALLY need yet ANOTHER Dwight thread for this?
Ok, so, you get Dwight, and u open up the Omer Trade table, who do u target? LMA? KLove? What team says Omer>Star? U basically say, ok, we want a PF, set everywhere else, we need superstar, Omer Asik doesn't make SS money, so can't be traded for 1. Now u just tied up cap space, while telling him we replaced u. If we sign Dwight, all our high dollar expirings will be gone. If Dwight comes, Omer stays.
This. I'm crazy if I don't want Dwight? How about YOU'RE crazy if you want Howard? Dude's 100% reliant on athleticism, and he's starting to break down. The thing with injuries is once you get your first major injury, you'll never really be the same again. Just ask Yao Ming, Amare, Bynum and Bogut. Hell, even Linsanity wasn't the same after that torn knee. Plus, the dude just threw his entire team under the bus. Lebron played on a team 3x worse than DH, and he never said anything bad about his cast even though he took them to the finals and the best record in the league. You really want that guy as your next franchise player? Even worse, he doesn't want to win. Howard won't be the guy who'll lead your team to rings, he had a chance to form his own big 3 with CP3 and Dirk and Dallas. Instead he botched it up for LA or NY. Dude won't leave LaLa land, unless it's to go to Brooklyn.
