We don't! Esp. with the Asian craze--Korean pop, Taiwanese dramas, etc.--coming along.

And the HOU Rockets are bigger than just Jeremy Lin.

There's actually a book called Pacific Rims that is about how popular basketball is in the Philippines.

Yes, that's just a generalized statement. Sure there are racist and ethnocentric sentiments, but that doesn't mean everyone is like that. Same thing with racism in the USA, who experienced it in college.

Also there's plenty of Filipinos of Chinese descent, including Tyrone Tang.

I'm too freakin' excited for this!

I'm currently living in Singapore but might have to fly over there to see them up close.

to be fair, the Philippines did inherit the Spanish trait of being a clueless racist/borderline racist, just check the language and how derogatory some of the words are for a particular race (i.e. African, Chinese )

I is important to note that a considerable part of the population is Chinese, hence the infusion of the Chinese culture

funny,I have friends who are pissed that the Rockets are playing here instead of the Lakers and Heat, there are a lot of bandwagon fans here

finally, see you there Filipino Clutchfans

Wasn't there a player who said, "If you want to be treated like rock stars, go to the Philippines." Was that Gilbert Arenas?

Most of them, not some. The Pinoys think of themselves as an entire mutually exclusive ethnicity, similarly to how the Chinese don't identify with the Philippinos; which also explains why Manny Pacquiao isn't that popular in China.

Isn't Lin Tiawanese? Makes sense that we are going to Asia. Remember we went to China years ago when Yao was playing.

And damn Stern, always ****ing the Rockets with those tough schedules. I mean, traveling to the other freaking side of the world?!

I don't know why but I'm not surprised by the game in the Phillipines, Taiwan and China.

I read that Eric Spoelstra is part Filipino and tries to visit the Phillipines every off season to visit his mom's side of the family. There was a report last off season where it was mentioned that maybe if he would bring Jeremy and Kobe to participate in a training camp there.

It's going to be so crazy in Taiwan. Based on vids I've seen following every Jeremy move in Taiwan, China & Hong Kong last summer, they're going to act like he's a rock star. He better have that Hello Kitty mask ready. :)

On his last Asian tour, Jeremy goes to a gym in Taiwan, someone sees him and social media where he is and this is what happens.

Though I like soccer too, part of me wants basketball to overtake it as the world's most popular sport because of the Euro-snobbery, racism, and cheating that goes on in soccer.

Pretty much. To be offended by making the connection is absurd.

Someone go tell the Bankok Post that they're stepping on some toes with the first line of the article being, "Asian-American NBA star Jeremy Lin..... and the Houston Rockets will face the Indiana Pacers in a pre-season game next October."

They should also tweak the reporting from Manila as well. Making it a point to call Jeremy Lin "the league’s first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent," is a bitt gauche for us politically correct types.
