Plus I had read somewhere that the last year or two, superhero movies aside, action movies have been seeing one of its worse draws ever.
How insightful and relevant. But it's a shame the movie couldn't make back it's budget. It was pretty solid and I would love to see another. Like Astrosfan said, it was not marketed very well at all.
It's making more money on home video, that's not bad but not good either since it didn't do to well at the box office.. I actually saw this in 3D when it came out, really good conversion but I stand corrected The Raid was better. Well for me of course, it had suspense/kung fu and more action. I like Dredd, it's a solid action movie, the girl psychic didn't work for me much and I'm not sure if they explain it in the movie but why was her helmet off??
They did explain it, Dredd said she was making a rookie mistake not wearing her helmet, and she explained that it interfered with her psychic abilities so she couldn't wear one.
Oh come on, did the writers really come up with that? Oh well just a minor nitpick otherwise a solid action movie in my book.
Should be "one of their worst draws" up there. Use "their" because you're talking about the plural "movies"; use "worst" because that's the inferior of multiple things. You're welcome, sir.
They had to find a way for her to be in that movie with her helmet off, otherwise the audience would not be able to connect with Dredd at all. Her emotions and reactions to Dredd's actions is what gives both protagonists any emotional resonance. But I found the whole reason plausible anyways. Shoot look at Magneto in X-Men; same theory.
Yeah, we are talking about science fiction psychic abilities, so "realism" is already out the door. I didn't have any problem with the explanation. It was an entertaining movie. Not an all time favorite or anything, but worth seeing if you're an action movie fan.
Blame it on the comic book. They were just staying true to the source. Plus even the regular judges, except for Dredd, have their helmets off a lot of the time.
My woman and I just saw this on Blu Ray in our home theater. WOW! The surround sound quality was incredible! I have 4 subwoofers, and the LFE made my 2nd floor rumble the 90 minutes of the movie. The sci-fi world they created wasn't bad either. Very District 9'ish. As a film, this was an entertaining B action flick. Some said this copied The Raid: Redemption. However, I thought good martial arts choreography notwithstanding, that was a mediocre film. The concept was similar: fighting your way out of a very tall building. Neither of us read the comic books, but we loved it. Slow motion sequences were a little overdone though. Acting wasn't Oscar-level either. But, the tight pacing made this a very fun Friday night popcorn movie. It was a great reprieve from artsy, convoluted, and slow-paced movies. I'm really pissed at the poor box office performance. $36M global on a $50M budget? Only a measly $13.5 from the US... This movie deserved a sequel. SMH.
Heard a lot of great things about this movie and its comparisons to the Raid, wil watch over the weekend.
How did this movie do so bad??!?! It was an amazing action flick! solid 8.5/10 Love the soundtrack too
This is from the feature film? Lot more cerebral than I remember, I even recall being pissed that my older brother convinced my Dad to see it. I think by that time I thought Van Damme was just a moron.
