Not sure I'd really understand signing Brooks, especially since we pretty much have his carbon copy in Beverley, whose a better defender and more of a high energy guy. Plus, he's already settled into the rotation and knows his place. Even though the deal was much better for us, losing Patterson and Morris affected the rhythm of the rotation, especially showed against Washington and Milwaukee. Now, it seems they have got back into rhythm after the last two games. Plus, Brooks isn't that much of an improvement over Beverley numbers-wise. Brooks has played twice as many games as Beverley (46 v. 20), but his productivity isn't much more significant. In 46 games, Brooks averaged 8 ppg, 2.3 asts, 0.6 stls, and 1.7 reb. In 20 games (less than half of Brooks), Beverley has averaged 5.8 ppg, 2.8 asts, 1.1 stls, and 2.5 reb. So, even though Brooks has him in pts, Beverley still beats him in three out of four categories. I would say that Beverley makes up for less points with his high energy style of play and tenacity on defense, something that this team isn't necessarily the best at.

Why would Morey want Garcia's contract? You have to pick up the team option to be able to trade him on draft night. No team wants to pay Garcia $6.4M next year.

As an expiring contract at next year's deadline, that might not be a bad weapon to have. However, I think the cap space at the end of this season holds a higher value to us right now.

And Brooks is not being added to take over Bev's spot.....we simply don't have another option at PG if there is an injury to either one of Lin or Bev right now. I think it's a low risk move that makes complete sense. AB is a spark plug, and can be brought in as an addition PG/SG who is able to create his own shot.

^i'm ok with that...seems we're following the Spurs blueprint...they also have a lot of PGs...Parker, Mills, De Colo, Joseph

this is more for playoff purpose in case one of our guards get hurt, in other words pretty much an insurance move, there now stop wondering and questioning the move.

A team does NOT put 15 guys on the roster so that they all get playing time.

The only thing I think is a concern is that Brooks was granted a buyout by Sacto because he was "buried" on the bench.
Or was it just to save ca$h again for them??

You cannot be on a contract guaranteed for the rest of the season with a team past March 1st and be eligible for the playoff roster of another team. Brooks was waived on March 1st (in time); Selby was waived a couple days too late (normally this would be considered a scumbag move by CLE).

The fact that Selby was waived a couple days too late is probably where the speculation of Brooks-to-CLE comes from. It may be in response to Brooks becoming available off waivers.

    Hmmmmmmm, do you?

Here's some questions we should have about this trade?

    1. Trade could have been completed with Cole and PPat for TRob and Honeycutt AND $1 million. Why did it include Garcia and Douglas?

    2. Sacramento is cutting Brooks and taking the risk that they have to pay his entire salary next seasonif he isn't claimed on waivers and isn't signed for next season for the $3 million or so they owe him for next season. Why would they do that when they're selling the team and trying to cut salary?

    3. Why would Sacramento want to trade for Toney Douglas, an expiring contract, when they have one point guard that they can't find minutes for (Jimmer) and another point guard (Brooks) that they don't want?

    4. Now this one you are going to have to wait to see. But....why is Morey going to give Brooks a contract with a partial guarantee for next season?

    5. Garcia is an expiring contract. He may have already been paid out his entire salary for this season. Do you really think Sacramento wanted to move him when he has no value whatsoever?

Put it together man. Morey wanted Garcia. The question is why did Morey want him?

LOL you can't have too many shooters on our squad. 90% of our offense relies on players being able to hit 3s...we don't even run any plays, just run, provide spacing and the open guy shoots the 3 or PNR.

Right now we don't have enough firepower though, if you chart our perimeter guys it's like this:

    1st option: Harden, Jlin, Parsons

    2nd option(bench): Delfino, Beverly

    3rd option (reserve): Garcia

^See the problem here? Garcia is the only reserve we have, if 1 guy in the 1st/2nd option starts shooting blanks or gets injured then we can get Garcia in, but if two guys starts shooting blanks or gets injured we don't have anyone to replace them. Plus if you look at the roster we only have 2 pgs, if Lin or Beverly go down we won't have a pg, you can't have Harden handle the ball and expect him to take over the game in the 4rth.

Isn't he Delfino insurance? Garcia's like a carbon copy of Delfino, which is good because Delfino would be making serious bank next season.

    Yes, you do.

Douglas makes like $4M more than Garcia. Granted, I imagine most of their salaries has already been paid, but the Kings saved some additional money by swapping the two.

I don't know, but what does have to do with the Robinson trade?

Emergency PG in case of an injury? Young vet to stabilize the locker-room? I don't know.

We don't know that Brooks will get a partial guarantee for next year, do we?

Yes. To save money. Why do you think his entire salary has already been paid for?

Let the count down begin. Wonder if the Cavs get him before he is able to sign with the Rockets?
