The argument that Asik is the team MVP is also based on the inherent positions differences, not on talent. It all depends on what you value the most, offense or defense, and who has the most impact on either of the two.

I can pretty safely guarantee that every single GM in the NBA would take Harden over Asik, and I can pretty safely guarantee that it wouldn't even be a discussion.

Hell...I'm shocked we're even having this discussion. I can't remember too many times where the all star on the team isn't the best player.

David Lee-Steph Curry? I don't take "who is an allstar?" for an argument. When I consider who is the MVP of a team (to the team win% and not to GMs of other teams with other needs) then I just consider who has the most impact on defense or offense. I am pretty sure that we will suffer offensively if Harden is to go down but we will still be able to score as there are other scorers on the team who can step up. However, it is a well known fact that we can't play a lick of defense without Asik.

I think you and me value the word "importance" differently, which is fine.

I find Asik to be the biggest "X Factor", or maybe 2nd biggest behind Lin, as in, if Asik is playing well, we are pretty damn tough to beat. If he's not playing well, we suffer very much.

Harden brings a level of leadership, offensive dominance, consistency, and enhancement of his teammates that I think makes him the MVP of the team.

But I suppose I see where you're coming from.

Asik because he's the foundation. No one on the rockets can fill asik's shoe right now. Not even a combination of two people. I think harden's role can be filled by two people on the rockets team, that's why i have him 2nd.

I think a decent big is important but irreplaceable. A superstar on the other hand... And noone's mentioning the importance of having a closer, especially in the playoffs.
And the amount of people who think Parsons is better than Lin is puzzling to me. I mean the argument can be made, of course, they're quite similar in talent level. But who would you rather have, a good floor general who leads an offense, or a do it all SF. Yes, I would like both but, once again, the importance of a floor general is being overlooked too easily in my opinion. I truly believe that discounting any superstars, the C position and PG is most crucial to a team, by leaps and bounds. Just my opinion.

    Asik - for his Defense/Rebounding
    Harden - for his Offense
Lin - for his defense , for running/directing the offense , and holding the team together when they are in chaos
Parsons - scoring and defense. All around player..
Delfino - for providing much needed Offense/spark when the four mentioned above are not playing well.
