For those saying Asik is our best player (which, I can slightly understand the argument of where his value is),... If you had a draft using only the Rockets' players, who would you draft first?

Also, how many wins would you take away with Asik gone vs Harden gone?

How replaceable is Asik vs how replaceable is Harden?

Though, I do agree Asik is our second best player, Harden is first and it's not even close.

I am genuinely alarmed at the people saying Asik > Harden....

I mean...seriously people...is Ibaka better than Durant/Westbrook? Varejao over Kyrie Irving? Pekovic over Kevin Love? Tyson Chandler over Carmelo Anthony? And as somebody previously said....if there was a draft of all the Rockets players, would you REALLY take Asik over Harden?

Please...Asik is great at defense, but that doesn't automatically put him ahead of our All Star, Top 10 player in the league....

Who is the most valuable commodity in the current NBA where teams are going small due to a lack of legit big man: an elite wing scorer or a big man with legit height who is an immediate game-changer on defense? Make of that what you will.

Soooooooo are you implying that, yes, you would take Omer Asik over James Harden if you were starting a team with the Rockets players available to you?

    This is amazing to me.

Maybe Asik is secretly one of the 10 best players in the whole NBA and I am missing it.

I love having Asik on our team and would not trade him for any Center other than Dwight (begrudgingly), but I wouldn't trade Harden for anyone not named Kevin Durant or Lebron James.

The wing man, if he's on Harden's level.

    Anywho, I'm going with:
    Harden
    Asik
    Lin/Parsons
    Beverly

If you look WS, WP, or PER the order is the same for all 3 aggregates.

    1. Harden
    2. Parson
    3. Asik
    4. Lin

Sorry DMO you just don't enough minutes to determine what kind player you will be.

    I'm picking Asik over Harden.
Sorry but how important defense to winning seems to be ignored too much
Harden a great player but I think we have less win if Asik was out of the lineup
The other players can make up for Harden's scoring
Who else on the team can play defense , rebounds the ball, and play tough around the rim?

You guys forgot quickly how many games Delfino won for us. Coming off the bench with such a important points and some good defense. Last night he wasnt on his level but i would put him at #3, behind Harden and Asik.

Yes. My first concern when starting a team will be: can it play defense? You need defensive stops to play winning basketball. Asik is a top three defensive center in the league ( along with Dwight and Noah). So I will choose him to anchor my team and then I will move on to the PF, choosing a stretch or a low-post threat depending on what type of offense I intend to play and then only I will care about finding my wing scorer. For compared to the number of quality big men available scoring SFs, SGs and PGs are two dimes a dozen. Regardless of the type of talent available at the other 4 positions, a quality center that can play is a 1# overall pick as confirmed in almost all NBA drafts. Of course, this implies that I am not going for small ball crap like McSuccess.

Anyway, the rockets defense is the 12# rated when Asik is on the floor and by far the worst when he is sitting: that's MVP calibre impact right there. Harden's impact on offense is much tougher to gauge as the Rockets are after all the 1# scoring team: Parsons, Lin, DMO and Delfino are not scoring midgets. People tend to dread : "How bad will this team be if Harden is injured?". Well, we can't quite answer that but we suck royally everytime Asik is on the bench.

Hmmm...well I'll be on the lookout for Asik making First or Second Team All NBA...seeing as how he's all of a sudden better than James Harden.

In a grudge type game, rallying to the defense of a teammate

    Harden
    Asik
    Lin
    Parsons
    Delfino

    At home, normal game

    Harden
    Asik
    Parsons
    Lin
    Delfino

    On the road, normal game

    Asik
Harden (but not until the fourth quarter)
    Douglass
    Delfino
    Patterson

    While feeling especially loved

    Harden
    Lin
    Parsons
    Asik
    Greg Smith

    While feeling unloved

    Asik
    Patterson
    Harden
    Howard Chen
    Delfino

If by better you mean more talented, then no, Harden is by far more talented at his position. But if you are going to go with the most important metric, which is impact on wins, then Asik shades it by being such a force at the most important position on the team.

I love Parsons. I think he's still underrated and has the potential to be a star/near-star but I still dont think he's better than Lin (personally). Lin creates plays and shots, Chandler receives them. Lin runs the offense, Parsons is a cutter/shooter. That difference is key, I think. All things considered, I'd say they are near equal at this point in their careers. Lin is also a Swiss army type player, takes charges, rebounds, steals, passes, runs, scores, dwfends, but the inherent position differences make Lin a more valuable player, IMO.

Very similar to the Asik/Harden discussion here. The impact of a defensive center is so strong that some value him over a superstar caliber player. But to the contrary, Harden is so ridiculously good that it would be silly for anyone to actually pick Asik over Harden as impactful as Asik is.
Plus can you imagine this team without a good point guard. It would affect the team as much as anything. I really believe that our offense would suffer greatly without Lin more than without Chandler although that would be a tough loss as well.

    So, for me:
    1. Harden
    2. Asik/Lin
    3. Chandler
    4. D-Mo
    5. Delfino

And I also believe that our starting 5 are all plus players, though D-Mo needs some more games to show it (and continual growth on D)

Like most everyone else, Harden is on top of my list, but if the question could be interpreted as the 5 most interesting players to watch, then my list goes like this.

    Beverley
    DMo
    Delfino
    Parsons
    Harden / Lin (tied)
