Ric Bucher My legion of NBADL reporters tell me that, while out of shape, Royce White was clearly the best player on the floor In a lopsided W Friday night and then was ejected in Saturday night's rematch. Will gather more details and pass them along for those as fascinated by White's saga as I am. (At least that 68-hour round trip in the RV was worth two games, not one.) http://sulia.com/ricbucher/f/b63386...ter&guid=b6338693-b936-4e17-8fca-2c8e7e601957
Royce might as well buy a purple jet ski with leopard print trim to pull behind that Winnebago because right now his career path most closely resembles a post–meltdown Kenny Powers.
no way Amtrak is faster for a number of reasons. the closest Amtrak stop is San Antonio. he would have to make reservations from San Antonio to Los Angeles with pickups along every stop along the way. according to their timetable, it would take from Monday to Thursday if you left tomorrow, and that's just to get to Southern California. then he would have to transfer to San Francisco and take a shuttle bus down to Santa Cruz from there. an even crazier route has a train going from San Antonio to Springfield IL, cross country to Northern California. any of the above options would easily take 2 days +
Despite him being his own worst enemy with his behavior/mouth/twitter/etc, I really feel for the guy and wish he was getting better fan support. It would be tough to deal with this situation for any 21 year old kid, much less one with emotional mental disorders. Give the kid a break.
I'm rooting for him, but this is insane on his part. Royce, you gotta push through the fear or find a new dream. End of discussion.
Nobody wants to see him fail. But when we care more about his basketball career than he does there's a serious problem. Royce has become distracted by the whole mental health thing and right now he's more concerned about creating buzz about that than to making his on-court game better. If that doesn't change, then he will wind up without a basketball career and any kind of effective platform to make a real difference for others with mental health disabilities.
Clutchfans on Royce White, bullying at its finest. And he deserves it because his views don't align with theirs and he's "hurting" the team, when most of the team have stated already he's not a distraction whatsoever. Like i've said before, you really have to wonder if alot of the attackers are not suffering from a mental disorder themselves, because they certainly show the classic signs of it.
He is hurting the team because the Rockets are getting zero return on the draft pick they spent on him. It isn't about being a distraction.
He's a 16th pick, it was a risk, and hasn't panned out yet and may never pan out, but we weren't exactly expecting a savior that late in the draft. That's not the main issue, because if it was we would have bashing and attacking the heck out of Marcus Morris last year for not giving us any production. Royce White is just making decisions, dumb or smart, that go against the grain of what people on this board would do, and people are afraid of what's different and go on the defensive. I could see people pitying him for missing out on opportunities, but to continually attack him shows there's something wrong in the head, possibly born out of jealousy.
There is a big difference between refusing to play and just not being very good. People bash bad players plenty, but at least they are trying. Look back at all the hate TMac got when he was not clearly putting out 100% effort. But at least he was showing up. White is doing NOTHING.
You're dumb. Period. Fighting for a safe work environment is not trivial. It's his life you're talking about. Now that it's settled how's about giving him a chance? Or not, and keep being ignorant about mental health issues.
He isn't fighting for a safe work environment. He is fighting for the NBA (or at least the Rockets, for him) to make accommodations for mental health issues, despite the fact that he has admitted that he could get on the plane and go play in the games, but doesn't feel that he should have to do so. He does not face any greater risk of injury than any other NBA player if he gets on the plane and plays in the games, but he is too special a snowflake for that. He has in fact flown around to play basketball many times.
