In all honesty look at AB's stats this year:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/3192/aaron-brooks

At 45.9% fg% he's actually picking his spots and taking much better shot than he ever has in his career. As far as why they're cutting, I remember in the beginning of the season he got quite a bit of playing time but then the Kings fans blamed him for the reason they're not playing Isiah Thomas and Ferdette (kind of like how we blamed Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris for DMO not get playing time).

The only difference is Morey at least get a top 5 pick with potential to be something when Rox do addition by subtraction. Sacramento continues to act like our other NBDL team :p

I wonder what AB's contract would look like. Maybe pay him a little more now in exchange for a fully non-guaranteed 2nd yr?

That's what I'm guessing. 3-4 million a year with next year being unguaranteed.

Given the amount of the Rockets' available cap room right now and expected room this summer, I'm guessing that it'll just be a straight-up minimum signing.

Giving Brooks significant money this season solely for the purpose of MAYBE using him as a non-guaranteed contract on draft night or this summer doesn't seem to pass the "pro-con" test to me.

What if it's $2M guaranteed now, plus $2M non-guarantees next yr? What do you think, as a baseline comparison, AB will be worth as a FA this summer?

thank you finally some reason...... There is no one guy thats free on the streets thats gonna turn our defense around or improve it..... Brooks can ball plain and simple...

I remember when the Rockets were making their run and McHale was in the studio and he seemed to be a real fan of Brooks/Lowry...... I could also see this move as Morey throwing Mchale a bone by giving him a solid vet that he can trust..... Which we all know is what he wants...

    Well said.

I suppose what bothers me is that adding AB will disrupt our fragile PG chemistry.

If AB is amazing enough to take some of Lin's minutes. Lin gets unhappy.

If AB is solid, but unspectacular, he takes some of Patricks minutes. Patrick is unhappy.

If AB is terrible, AB is unhappy.

Right now, both Lin and Patrick are happy and comfortable with their roles. I am not blind that PG depth, on paper, looks a little weak. I also consider I maybe over thinking this.

But at the end of the day, chemistry and a happy clubhouse I value as important. Discontents can affect everything. While id like to think that our players are mature enough to accept things as they happen, we are not talking about a veteran team here. Emotions play a larger role with young teams.

I suppose all things considered, yes, you take AB if you can manage it. But I am a bit concerned about the fallout.

Lin is a team player, he will be alright. Can't say the same for his fans.
Beverly is a minimum player who is lucky to get any minutes at all. He will be okay.
If Brooks can't get minutes, he will just simply leave in the off season.

This is a no risk move. We all know Brooks can ball, and can even command a double team when he gets hot. We also know that he has no confidence issues. If we make the playoffs, Brooks could win us a couple of games.

Brooks isn't a starter, but he is instant offense off the bench which is something IMO the Rockets could use.

Do we not struggle to score with the second unit, or am I mistaken?

Plus McHale likes to go small ball you can play AB at the 2 or IF you really want to go small play all three guards.

In certain match-ups I can see Brooks playing the 2 position while Lin, Harden, and Beverely play the 1.

He has to clear waiver first. The waiver process takes 48 hours.

A three guard lineup is what I think will happen as well if Brooks does get playing time. McHale did it last year at the end of the season with Dragic, Lee, and Lowry when he came back. I guess the question is who are three guards on the floor; Harden, Brooks, and Bev or Harden, Brooks, and Lin. The defense would probably suffer some, but how much worse could it get anyways? This way though all three point guards get some PT.

The only thing I don't like about this is it takes away any potential minutes James Andersen may have had coming. I am a pretty big fan of Andersen, and although he made some foolish mistakes in a couple games, I thought he had a solid overall skillset coming off the pine.

Low risk, high reward pickup. I like Brooks as instant offense off the bench and can play two guard, like he did sometimes when Lowry was here.
