Rick Adelman actually wanted to keep coaching this team. Fail. And I don't think Rick really would have cared about giving up Kevin Martin and Lamb and Lowry in the off-season to get Harden. Fail again.
Part of that is true, part of that is revisionist history. Adelman might have loved to come back, but he constantly fought with Morey and the decision was made to go with a coach that would work with the FO rather than actively work against them.
When you are the youngest team in the league and potentially the youngest team to ever make the playoffs, no. I mean, trade one of your PFs, ok. Trading the entirety of the minutes at your 4 spot for POTENTIAL down the road is asking for a major setback going forward that year... People who see it as something else are probably just hopeful that T-Rob pans out to be something he does not appear even close to at this time, or completely enamored with Morey in a way that a lot of people are with Lin. Yet they don't take half the **** as the Lin fans when Morey does something that sets the team back...
Setting the team back this year doesn't really matter, the future is what matters. Giving DMo and Robinson experience is more important than keeping around two scrub PF's to try and ensure a first round exit from the playoffs.
All the media and fans applauding the trade KNOW Trob is a lesser player than Ppat RIGHT NOW. So what exactly is the issue after a couple games again? It's all about the future. Do some of the fans really believe you can get a top5 prospect in rookie year for a rotational player when the rookie prospect is playing good? Trob's average performance so far is exactly the reason we can get him this early/cheap.
+1 But, still - you have to admit that Morey's in-season moves that appear detrimental sometimes do lead to something much, much better.
Adelman didn't "work against" the FO. Quit making things up. There's no "might have loved to come back", he in fact WANTED to come back. Unfortunately his fate was sealed when the owner wanted him gone long ago for not getting on board with the Yao minute limit imposed upon him by the FO. You'll have to explain to me how McHale works with the FO while Adelman "worked against" them. It's funny how KM is receiving the EXACT SAME complaints from the whiners as Rick was getting.
You don't get it. You are posting common sense, but the owner doesn't abide by those principles. I'm sure McHale is aware of that after talking with JVG and Rick.
The story is that Adelman wanted a say in team operations and wasn't cool with the FO running almost everything. Also, he was offended and right so by the fact the rockets waited so long to ask him for an extension.
I'd love to. Rick Adelman on numerous occasions refused to give minutes to players that Morey picked up, seemingly out of anger that moves were made at all, McHale doesn't do that. I don't know for a fact, but I'm fairly sure the reason guys like DMo didn't get into the rotation before the trade deadline was because it would kill Morris and Patterson's trade value. That's working with the FO. The opposite of that is Adelman who stuck to a 7 man rotation even after the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs in OT games rather than play guys Morey picked up. There is no excuse in that. The disputes between Adelman and Morey were well documented, Adelman punched his own ticket out of town by being stubborn and fighting with the FO. It was very similar to the movie "Moneyball"
I don't see why this is thread-worthy. Coach gets asked a question about roster changes, properly defers to the GM about said changes. McHale is an ex-GM, he fully understands the separation of the roles and that his and Morey's jobs do not overlap, nor do they necessarily align.
That's an interesting prediction, but that would mean 1. McHale gets paid while playing golf next year, and 2. the Rockets hand Phil the biggest coaching contract in the history of the franchise. SVG actually interest me more, but would he want to play for the owner who shoved his brother out the door?
Perhaps. I tend to think he's a creature of habit and routine. Once he got out of the routine of basketball it spiraled downward for him. I think once he gets back on the horse he'll be fine. I know I'm being optimistic. But despite how much people here can't stand him, I'm really rooting for the guy.
Phil Jackson would never agree to coach the Rockets, they aren't hands down the most talented team in the NBA, he only coaches teams that have by far the most talent on them. If he coached an average team, people might start realizing that he's not all that good a coach.
What do you consider reasonable? He's terminated none of the coaches, and instead chosen to not renew their contracts, I can't really think of how you can change coaches in professional sports in a more reasonable manner. No mid-season or mid contract dumpings, not one.
SVG has lost the star players of two teams. Everyone piles on Dwight for the mess in Orlando but overlook how Wade and Shaq gave him the boot in Miami.
