He was probably not a fan for the same reason many other of us were not a fan and wanted him benched for Lowry LOOOOOONG before the Ginobli incident. Brooks is essentially a one trick pony. When his shots don't fall, he has nothing to offer... at all. He was an average passer at best, played defense about as good as Martin, was afraid most of the time to take it to the rim because he was too small and light to take to strong to the hoop, and he got a really stuffy head thinking he was good as the MIP player on a Rockets team many thought was lottery bound before the season even started. AB is Ben Gordon Lite basically.
His speed only works when his shot is falling. He has no game outside of his shot. You think people respect AB's penetration skills? He is an undersized speedy shooter. That is all he is. Now if he was a GOOD passer, he could still try to penetrate and dish, but he was not a very good passer either.
He is not going to be starting. He is going to be coming off the bench, not sure you all those criticisms are valid when his sole purpose is provide energy, something he seems to do.
You're arguing that there is almost no value to Aaron Brooks. I'm not arguing that he is a perfect player. He is a role player. He is a one trick pony. Chuck Hayes was a low post defender. Asik is a rebounder. Delfino is a 3 point shooter. Patterson was a floor spacer. Brooks is a quick scorer. I get that you really don't like that role. But Brooks scored his CAREER HIGH in the second round of the playoffs. He could be a good bench player. He won't have the same expectations of being an MIP / starter; just a quick, offensive guard. I say thumbs up to a second chance. We don't have much to lose.
Um... I think you misunderstand? I am all for bringing him back on the team with our current playing style as long as he knows he is not the man and that he is coming off the bench as a backup. As long as he knows his place, I have no problem with him. I was replying to Napalm asking this other poster why he is biased against Brooks, that it was the same reason a lot of other Rockets fans were biased... he is not a good player, just a decent one.
You must have missed my post a few pages back saying I would like him back if he knows his place? I was merely letting you know why people have bias against AB.
Actually his career high was 43 against the twolves, I think I posted the vid in here. But next is the lakers game so you are partially correct. I HIGHLY doubt that is going to be a problem. 3 years of living in a gutter does wonders for your ego.
I agree his penetrating kick-outs weren't the best. But you won't find many better spot-up, catch-and-shoot threats.
Well, I was responding to those people then. They clearly missed the 2009 playoffs. Brooks was a great role player.
Hope you're right. As long as he knows his place on the totem pole, I am fine with his return. I completely agree. The condition of his playing time has to be relative to his touch on any given game though. He is simply too big of a liability when his shot is flat. When it's on though, whoo-whee!
AB was playing like a near-allstar in his last year with Houston. You can't win MIP if you aren't good. I'm thrilled to have a quality guy like him back on the squad.
Granted - the injury did make a noticeable difference to his game. Sadly.. We don't have him yet - I don't think it's finalized..?
He improved a tad bit the first 3 years on his shooting, but for the most part he actually didn't improve that much. His output simply scaled with the increase in minutes. He also got a tad better at jumping in passing lanes, but his rebounding and assists didn't improve at all. It is the simple fact that he played more and his output scaled as a result. You want to talk about real improvement, look at Chandler Parsons.
Is this for serious? You also couldn't find a blacker whole, who couldn't even figure out how to properly give a post pass to a 7'6" center. Something Battier did worlds better.
But if he can still get open with his speed and his shot is falling when Harden finds him open, things can look really bright.
