Thats fine then, but as a coach (and this is what the coach's job is) you try win as many games and put your team in the best position possible. It is a stressful job especially when you have so many people breathing over you all the time. You can see why he would be angry. The rockets were projected to win 30 games this year, for a team over acheiving it is a slap in the face to amputate a leg when they are already hobbling crippled.
McHale can say or feel whatever he wants, I don't care. I just don't think the trade is as egregious as CH insists on making it out to be.
i'm sure there's plenty of qualified hire candidates ready, willing, and most eager to take on this roster (even without the great patrick patterson) and incorporate their repertoire of actual x's & o's as head coach of the houston rockets. this would leave mchale free to join one of the other 28 teams whose turnover he so much admires (28 teams and only 9 turnovers per year in each = trying to win!)
It's not about short term success, it's about long term success. I'm happy we have a GM that understands this and his effort has finally rewarded him Harden and I'm sure another star. This is how all the best teams work. The Lakers did not win a championship and made big moves to improve. The Thunder made a move geared for the future. Boston is always looking to make moves. If we are satisfied with just making the playoffs...Morey wants to build a team that's a lock for the playoffs and the regular season is a formality. Maybe so. It was still bad to compare Miami's situation to our own. Miami is a established team while we are a building team. Yeah, McHale really shouldn't judge Morey too much because he was terrible as a GM. So I guess McHale would rather have all the same guys back from last year? This is why we have GMs really, because coaches fall in love with these players on a personal level and Morey does not.
It seems McHale doesn't like T-Jones. McHale was already forced to play Lin whom he doesn't like. You can't do anything right if you are in your boss's dog house. Take a example, Lin was pulled out of the game at unfortunate time no matter how he play, either good or bad. Look, coach left Bev in cause he was playing hot. McHale will leave Parsons and Harden in even if they play bad.
Heres how I see it, and I totally understand why CH is pissed. Team sucks, gets the 9th seed. But look on the bright side....14th pick eh? Maybe those wasted seasons will actually get us something? Que: Draft Morris. Draft PPAT. Become established players in the league. Oh guess what we'll trade them away for a bag of potatoes keeping in mind TWO season of lottery picks we just wasted....to get what.....wait for it.... another 14th pick? Lets rinse. Wash. And repeat.
How was it bad if it was just a sarcastic answer to a stupid question? Ask a dumb question like "Coach how do you like that your starting and backup PF's just got traded away in the middle of the season?" you get an answer like "Oh yeah, I love it, I can't believe that every team wouldn't trade away half their front court mid season every year" If you don't like McHale, you'll probably use this comment, like others, as a reason to say "McFail is terrible, he needs to be fired" but those people would take pretty much any excuse to say that so it's hard to take it seriously.
McHale used to be a GM and is not stupid. He's just saying that these questions need to be answered by the GM. He is just playing dumb.
He just wants that in his résumé. McHale is a competitor. Do competitors think "long term"? I still take Morey's side in this. When a deal presents itself like the Robinson deal did you don't hesitate because your team is in the 8th seed.
While you've got Daryl on the phone, can you ask him how McHale has James Harden, Omer Asik and Carlos Delfino also?
There are so many other things to say instead of what he said. "It's the players we have now, I'll just roll with the players I have not worry about the ones we traded away." "It's tough but we will make do with what we have." "Ask the GM about it, he made the trade not me." Many other things to say before you publicly question the GMs decision. WHY even bring up Miami? Again, he could have handled a dumb question better.
Translation: "I understand what morey's doing....but if it looks like we suck a times it's not because I don't know what I'm doing....I just have to work with what I've got.".....ie there's enough blame to go around with why we aren't winning more now.
Clutch I don't think mchale doubts Morey's success since he was a GM as well, but you can't blame him for this considering he is paid and judged by winning games when it just got harder for him. Adelman was pissed during the 09 season and said something similar. I don't think it will permeate further than this but he just had to get a snicker in.
Yeah but he chose to give a sarcastic remark....the only people who care are people with agendas. If Pop gave a similar sarcastic remark everyone would just laugh, since it's "McFail" then it's reason to throw a fit. People need to chill out a bit.
What does any of that have to do with Morris and Patterson being net negatives on the floor? Morey traded them because they were awful; bad for the future of the team and bad during the present. But OP will continue to make threads pretending like Patterson is anything better than a bench player.
Look, I get looking for the future rather than only the present. But it is not an all or nothing issue, but rather a matter of degrees and judgement. On one end of the spectrum you have the extreme present focus of NJ Nets trading a 1st round pick (turned out to be Damian Lillard) for Gerald Wallace when they were in 10th place or thereabouts. I am not talking about wanting a team to go that route and, say, trade Motiejunas for Amir Johnson, who is pretty good but older and more expensive. What Morey did was on the other end of the spectrum-- not only not adding anyone helpful even at a small cost (like the Camby move-- which admittedly require luck to pull off and there is no "Camby" available this yr) but also actively get rid of guys who are more helpful in the present. And for what in return? A 2nd round pick that u can probably get on draft night for Morris? Another busted lotto pick whose value won't be going up had he stayed in SAC until the summer?
