Clutchfans gets super crowded again, thanks to or annoyed by fans drawn by Jeremy Lin. It's certainly a lot of fun to have so many more posts to read, even sometimes you would strongly disagree to. However, I see many repetitive posts saying exact same thing, repeated by same poster or different posters. That made threads sometimes unbearable, for real discussions are simply buried. It seems that if we stop complaining about this or that group of fans, we would have reduced maybe 50% of posts. I can understand getting wore out after so many discussion about Lin, but don't we always say "don't shoot the messenger"? Then there will be no defense or counter attack. Disclaimer: I am not advocating for any trolling without consequences.

I do see many fans of Lin getting passionate about matters surrounding Lin, and some of the notions don't really sound reasonable. But I have to admit that as a fan of Lin and of course Rockets myself, also find some discussions are valid. Often than not, those were shot down by questioning of fan-hood or motives, which only made things worse.

McHale was one of the best players ever played the PF position, but nobody would rank him as high in the coach list. There were questionable or at least discussion worthy decisions by him. As many has pointed out in separate threads, that there were games people wondering about Asik was left on bench while we were getting killed on the glass. Honestly, I have NEVER seen a single poster responded as, "Asik is not an elite player, so his time is not guranteed"; or "Coach gets to decide whatever he sees"; or "Asik has this and that shortcomings, so there must be reason for coach to do that"; or "Other players played so much better to sub Asik back in".

But when it comes to Lin, we see such "reasoning" on every single page, as if that is a golden rule - everything happens to Lin must because he's not good. I totally agree that Lin is nowhere near elite or even very good. I personally don't rate him very high on PG list, and I personally even felt he's overpaid at current level of performance and contribution. But this is a young team, and everyone is making mistakes while they are learning. However, Lin is the one on shortest leash and most micro-managed.

Every time I see Delfino leading a fast break, I will cling onto something, because more than often, he will ignore running teammates or make a worse pass. Lin gets yanked every time he jumps up and finds nobody to pass to. To argue that he shouldn't be chewed out for his repeated mistakes is actually avoiding the real discussion - one of important aspects in management is fairness. I really don't see that in handling of Lin.

Let's revisit that overtime loss to Portland. Lin was put on bench for the entire OT, as a starter who had 11 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds, on 3-8 shooting. TD was put in to play the entire OT for "defensive purpose", with 2-11 shooting. In overtime, Rockets' offense only consisted of failed Harden ISOs (because the entire defense was on him only), and missed prayers by TD. At defensive end, Lillard burned Parsons & PPat every single time, after every single switch made by TD. That was screwed up coaching decision for the entire OT and the loss.

Lin is nowhere near those elite PGs in terms of play making. But his not so shady 11 assists in 36 mins at that particular game, most definitely could have helped Rockets in OT. As for defensive purpose of TD, if you switch him with Parsons in every single possession, it's just even more beyond logic. Nobody is perfect, but it was so hard for some of the vets here to call a mistake a mistake, when Lin is somewhere near that incident.

To me, that was a clear mistake and even bigger failure in adjustment by McHale. It has nothing to do with conspiracy against Lin. But for some reason, many vets were arguing passionately how it was NOT a mistake, and how Lin fans blah blah. To support such notions, some just went on to claim how TD played better and Lin got burned by Lillard, despite the fact that Parson was facing Lillard in OT, after switches. As if admitting a mistake was made by coaching staff regarding Lin would put them into the infamous LOF camp. I was very disappointed, because we could simply have agreed that as a mistake and everyone moves on.

In that "Lin'd rather.. and I tell him 'we are trying to win'" thread, durvasa was the ONLY vet I respect said something in the line that "might be wrong choice of words". It was plain simple logic and English, when you tell someone to change because we are doing something, obviously you mean he's NOT doing what you are trying to do. That doesn't need any context, and even if you insert the whole Greek history, that logic is not going to change. But as I said in that thread, I don't think McHale had any ill intention, it was just unfortunate of misuse of words. Context certainly helped to clarify perceived intentions, but misuse of words is still a mistake, be it unintentional or harmless (although it does sound bad). That thread would have shrunk to 10% of current size, if some vets stop being so defensive of McHale, even he clearly made the mistake, without any hidden agenda. Instead, some were busy to interpret that as tough love, and LOFs are pathetic and delusional :D

That reminds me of Steve Kerr's "Chinaman" comment. It was clearly a mistake, as he admitted and apologized. But instead of recognizing that and moving on, some of the posters were accusing Chinese of being oversensitive, and how they would never had problem to be called Italyman or Spainman or whatever. Not to compare the two mistakes, but rather see the similarity of response - when you have your opinion set for certain group of people, sometimes you would just argue for the sake of it to disagree with everything they say.

Last I checked, Lin is still a Rockets player, albeit an over-paid role player.

I'm Asian and I can't believe how freaking polarizing this guy is. He's a solid 24 year old guard with room for growth. Can we just leave it at that?

Exactly! Criticizing McHale's sub pattern for Asik will not be labeled as delusional player only fan would "rather" to see favorite player succeed at the expense of "team winning". Or it wouldn't be shot down with "Asik is a role player".

I don't know what your point is.

Kevin McHale's decision to keep Beverly in was the right one.

And the rest is knee jerking. Just like this thread.

If you bothered to read the thread, you would have known that I didn't mention last night's game, and in that thread I clearly said I didn't have problem with that 4th quarter.

However, if you have bothered to read the thread before your copy & paste your repetitive dismissive and attacking comment, you would have known that I was talking about people like you, as part of the problem on this board, in this very thread, you decided to post twice but not read once.

    Have a good day.

    I read your thread.

And I said "if this was any other player it wouldn't be a problem".

Of course, you decided to be a smartass about it, leading us to this point right here.

So if you disagree with that, fine.

If not, then stop being so sensitive.

By the way I have constantly said I think Lin should get the ball more.

In other words, you were just flame-baiting to intentionally argue about Beverly which I never mentioned? Then you started name calling and blamed me for being "sensitive"?

I don't question others' motives, but isn't what you did the very definition of trolling?

    Are you serious?

You were the one who baited this crap first.

My post with Beverly was in response to THIS post. You would notice if you had bothered to read the opening part of the post where I said "I don't know what your point is".

And stop playing victim, you yourself admitted you were referring to "people like me".

Also, let me get this straight. Do I think McHale has problems with his substitution pattern? Sure, it definitely could be improved. Do I think the game against Portland Sampson made a mistake taking Lin out? Definitely.

Do I think McHale should have stuck with Beverly longer in the game against Wizards instead of putting Lin back in who was struggling? Yes.

So no, I don't have anything against Lin nor any other player. I have always been one of the biggest supporters of Lin even before he became a Rocket.

I can't believe people are still worked up about the Portland game - wasn't that last year?

I am more worked up about the attitude and reaction of posters, as evident as some replies in this thread and many others.

I don't get what McHale wants. By benching Lin for Beverley, it's clear he puts more emphasis on scoring for the PG next to Harden. If you want a more traditional PG, Lin is clearly, easily the choice. But he averages only 6apg? He averages only 6apg because he has too many games where he doesn't play the 4th quarters/ for long stretches that would break a player's momentum.

I see that at times he is hesitant when he has the ball. But it's called growing process, he has played only 80+ real-minutes games in his career. But you have to give credit where it's due, he has great vision and very good passing skills. He gives bigs easy baskets, guys like Smith, Asik guys who would otherwise have a hard time scoring.

Iman Shumpert had like 1-2 alley oops a game last year playing alongside him. Without Lin, he's off to a slow start. Landry Fields also had 1-2 backdoor alley oops a game from Lin, in Toronto he's not getting those.

Lin has a feel for the game, and it's tremendous on his part to have to adjust and co-exist wonderfully with Melo and now with Harden. He knows where to give the ball to Harden in his sweet spots. He knows where Harden likes to operate.

When opposing guards penetrate into the lane with Lin guarding, be honest, we all feel like a steal and an easy basket is coming. When Lin initiates fast break and passes, be honest, we feel like it'll be a breakaway dunk for bigs or easy finish for a teammate. He's actually way ahead of learning curve. This "he can't shoot" thing is a myth fed by the media. He's shooting better than most elite PGs. TO machine? He averages less than Rondo, Irving, Lillard, Deron, etc.

I call the "scared to shoot" --> "indecision", which is part of growing process. As a true PG you have to balance between shooting and passing, which he's still learning by going through the process.

I see McHale does not see this, and is not invested into it. He'd rather have Aaron Brooks and Beverley shooting combined 10 threes a game to complement Harden.

Defense and good passing are not appreciated.

^^^ This..I would repped if only I could...

I just don't understand what the coaches wanted from him.....

    1. Earlier in the season they wanted him to Defend..but Lin is the 2nd best Defender of the team after Asik....It was not the PG of the opposing team that killed us, it was the SG and their PF's....

    2. Then, they played their supposed "Run-and-Gun" system...Lin played great with all of his long passes in fast breaks and rotating the ball as fast as he can...they've sustained with their 7 winning streak...

    3. And then Opposing teams had finally catch up on our system and started to adjust their defense...Lin was relegated again in the corner to spot up and let their SG and SF handle the ball....ISO-harden was criticize....Lin's 3 pt shooting was criticize...and thus the 7 losing streak....

    4. Then they revert back to their original plan of "run-n-gun" with a twist...Now they had taken up the "Drive-Kick/out-Shoot" style...whoever is open will shoot in case Harden can't penetrate on his drive...Lin's 3pt shooting was already improving...Lin is handling the ball 1/3 of the time...

    5. And then the OKC game.....the team was shorthanded so they have no reason to monitor Lin's minutes..they have no choice but to let him play 38 minutes..Lin scored 29...The coach said something he shouldn't have said...a

    6. Aftermath of OKC game...Lin's minute is being monitored again....the reason: "he was sick"....then they should had let the pseudo PG run the team instead of him and let him rest...."he was injured"..then why they are running Harden in the ground with 42 minutes a game when Harden is obviously the most banged up of the two..."Bev has been great in the 4th"..then why shouldn't you let your PG run the team in the first and second quarter and build a lead enough to sustain the team until the fourth quarter...Or let him start the fourth quarter in case the game is in the line, not just after 5 or 6 minutes remaining when he can't afford to make mistakes because the time is running out...

    The Coaching baffles me sometimes...

Parsons is a better defender than Lin. After which we could debate who else on the team plays comparable or better defense than Lin.

if your not lazy go look them up.

goran dragic isn't even close to the defender jeremy lin is.

im not making this stuff up.
