Not very many unless Lin, Beverley, or Harden goes down with injury.

Brooks main value is going to be as a trade piece with a nice contract that can either be kept or erased by the team he is traded to.

...and on that note....don't be surprised if Kwame Brown makes his way onto this roster before the end of the season.

i don't see a downside to this. why are people complaining about adding a guy who is a great spot up shooter to be the 3rd PG on the roster? if lin or beverly go down we are screwed. brooks actually fits better next to harden than lin because of his ability to hit the 3, and contribute even without dominating the ball handling duties.

I predict he'll get the majority of his minutes playing along side Lin and Beverly. Another way to go small is to have him play sg. We haven't really went small that way it's usually through the pf position

I rather spend a roster spot on a PF with reliable D. Like Lou Amundsen. Or even Juwan Howard.

I think Brooks gives the Rockets options off the bench. Brooks for offense (if their shots aren't falling), Beverley for defense (if/when they slip on that end).

Also--and I know many don't want to hear this--the addition of Brooks will help cut down a bit on the Rockets' reliance on Jeremy Lin. I generally like what Lin has done thus far this season, but it's clear that Lin (a real warrior) has been battling through some injuries and just general wear and tear that comes with being a full-time starter for the first time in his career. Dude hasn't missed a game yet despite fighting off injuries and taking plenty of hard hits on drives to the basket. Adding Brooks gives the Rockets a chance to rest Lin on some nights now, either by reducing his minutes or even possibly giving him a night off once or twice down the stretch.

Having Lin, Brooks and Beverley gives the Rockets OPTIONS. To me, that can't be a bad thing.

Good points. Just think that having options in the front court is more important right now.

Maybe not mutually exclusive, since they can cut both Garcia and Honeycutt and sign 2 guys.

The deal hasn't gone down yet, has it? I have not seen anything on it yet. Just interested to see the contract. I am sure it's three years with two of those years team options.

That's great and all, but it's not like there's a front court player out that who is appreciably better than Aaron Brooks.

Your distaste for the TRob trade is duly noted. Now just shut up about it already. :p

Lou Amundson was available. Juwan Howard is also available. If not better than AB, more useful than GArcia, who is buried deep on the depth chart behind Harden, Delfino, Parsons, Anderson.

Maybe a big from Europe like Joey Dorsey? He was DPOY in Greece last year!

Brooks has to clear waivers before he can sign with another team. It'll be Sunday night or Monday at the earliest before he can actually sign with Houston. Just note that the Phoenix Suns still have enough cap room to simply claim Brooks's contract off waivers, so there's at least still a small chance that Brooks never makes it to free agency. Given his player option for next year, though, it's not likely that Phoenix claims him.

Also, I wouldn't hold my breath on Brooks signing a deal similar to those signed by Anderson, Beverley and Ohlbrecht. Brooks has established himself in the NBA enough to where he'll (a) demand some form of guarantee for agreeing to sign beyond just this season and (b) be confident that some team will give him at least a fully-guaranteed minimum deal this summer.

My guess (at this point) is that Brooks signs either for just the remainder of this season or, if the Rockets pay him above the league minimum, maybe with a non-guaranteed second year with a fairly early guarantee date (like in Delfino's contract).

I'm guessing the Rockets simply liked Tim Ohlbrecht (true center size; understands the system) for this team more than those other options.

He's on the roster already. If he doesn't play, that's on the coaches, not the front office.

Read the post above yours as it answers the question I had and the question you may have pertaining to the Brooks' signing.
