Brooks can play backup SG when Harden goes to bench. Lin and Brooks would be a good back court combo.
Replace Beverley with Brooks, and it will get worse. Beverley's defense was a key factor in our win tonight.
I honestly don't mind this. I think he can come in and be a guy who plays 10-15 min. a night and can score in bunches. Yes his defense is atrocious, but let's be honest with ourselves, this team is NOT predicated on defense. It's the offense that makes them go. Therefore, why not add another scoring punch?
AB isn't taking minutes away from Beverley unless he gets in foul trouble or out of control. McHale has mentioned Patrick takes a lot of chances on going for the offensive rebounds and that puts the rest of the defense in limbo. Patrick is firmly entrenched as the backup pg IMO. Beverley will step in for Lin when Lin isn't on or struggling. AB will be insurance in case of injury or foul trouble to Patrick and Lin struggling. Also could spell at the 2 for small ball lineups (not liking that idea).
I'm not against adding a 3rd PG. Just don't think Brooks is a good fit. That said, our offense isn't really PG-driven, and Harden is playing point half the time he's on the floor. In the playoffs, you're typically playing only 8 players significant minutes. Stagger Harden's minutes with the remaining PG, if we we only have 1.
Also, it's damn funny that so many people think that AB is going to be the 3rd PG. While I don't necessarily disagree with that, I just find it interesting that he gets released and ON THE SAME DAY we rush to sign him. Perhaps it's an indication that we desperately want to upgrade the back-up PG spot and feel that AB, who is familiar with Houston, is that guy? IDK, maybe I'm looking too much into this.
How is he not a good fit? He is a perfect fit. Great spot up shooter, likes to run. Sure his defense isn't great, but he is not a bad player at all.
OK, "fit" isn't the right phrase. He doesn't address our team needs. We're struggling big time with our perimeter D, and we bring in one of the worst perimeter defenders in the league? And if he doesn't play, then what? If I remember correctly, he became a malcontent on the bench last time.
our perimeter D isn't to the point where brooks would impact it that much...meaning it is pretty bad. It is our interior defense when asik sits that is the problem.
"I should feel fortunate that I can still land an NBA roster spot" should be AB's attitude these days especially after being released from the lowly Kings. I'm sure the Rockets have spelled out what his projected role is on the roster when they talked with each other.
This, he came off a 20ppg MIP season and developed an ego. You can understand why he got pissed about being benched. Right now is a whole nother story and whole new coach.
