Let me state the facts here, Lin does have holes in his game skill-wise. But the bigger issue is he has some neurosis issue which is quite common in the asian community which means he sometime lacks confidence and is afraid to challenge authorities. Handen is a great individual basketball player. But he has a certain degree of character-disorder which means he doesn't trust others easily and he lacks communication ability. Hence he is not an ideal team player at this point of his career. McHale is NOT a coach. Forget about a good one or a bad one. He doesn't know what to coach. A big time player can rarely become a good coach. Cuz usually they have big personalities. They are too busy being themselves to see the bigger picture and understand different kinds of players. So he won't adequately develop these young players. Morey needs to look elsewhere. Personalities are the first and foremost factor you need to look at when you try to judge people.
you're talking out of your ass. How would you or anybody not on the team know that? he's the freaking point guard. he has the ball all the time. you pointing out one instance does not excuse Lin's timid confidence on offense. Something that he has been accused of forever even in his days in new york. Its a legitimate criticism.
I'd say that Lin should work more on his mid range jumpers and floaters. Ditto on Parsons on dribbling (Delfino as well).
Yeah I saw that quote and McHale was wrong for saying he'd rather have 25 points and 7 Taos, but he wasn't wrong when he called him a homerun hitter. Lin has been a homerun hitter. He'll have a great game and then he'll barely even get out of the infield for the rest of the series. He hasn't been consistent. I still have never seen McHale blast this guy after a game where Lin played well (even while scoring at a good rate) in a game they won.. it simply hasn't happened. Again if McHale had more confidence in Lin's ability to shoot consistently and score I highly doubt he'd ever make those comments. When you score efficiently your coach is never going to criticize you.
Next on the agenda: Need another team meeting. Too bad 2Pat is gone. There was no excuse for losing this game. It looked like Rockets was playing the second of a b2b game on the road. For crying out loud..had 3 days rest, home court advantage, 2 days practice, WTF! Oh well, this was a team loss and not singling out one player. At least, we got to watch Dmo start. ON TO THE NEXT GAME & HOPE ITS A BLOWOUT.
what facts? that lin is the point guard and other than harden handles the ball the most. fact is 11 attempts is not enough for a scoring point guard. gtfo with that lame ass do you watch any rox game come back.
From the PG position that is "little impact".. Without even getting into all the "potential stats" you automatically rewarded Lin, Both Lowry and Dragic put up more of a impact on almost a nightly basis and we let them walk. The PG is called a PG for a reason, he should have a impact on the game just because of his position, yet the good ones don't consider that great impact, not even the average ones do.
Coaching mistakes are generally the most costly and also most fixable. That's why they usually get first billing when it comes to what to fix. TOs are going to happen when players try to make basketball plays; shots are going to miss when shots are taken; letting the other team score their final 8 points exclusively off offensive rebounds because we have Delfino trying to hold off Sanders in the paint does not have to happen.
http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/2013/02/27/McHale022713mp4-2399445 Lot of posters here are upset about the game, and rightly so as it was a disappointing last second lost. But in McHale's post-game interview he seems just as upset, and also at wits end. Nothing wrong with the coach being upset but he seems to have no plan on how to go forward - "we go over the same thing every day... all the same stuff and we'll do it again tomorrow." Maybe it's just me, but if they have been taking this coaching approach for a while and it is not working, how about trying something new? Discouraging when the coach seems at a loss. Problems happen, mistakes can be hard to eradicate. But the team counts on the coach having some idea of what to do to get better. McHale seems adrift.
Any player on the floor for an appreciable number of minutes will have a stat line, so your premise is flawed. Lin had 10 points on 10-11 shots which is not good... Not terrible but overall not positive. His steals were cancelled out by turnovers and 3 rebounds are minimal. So you are left with 7 assists as his net contribution... Not terrible, but not great when you consider that is all you are getting. You need to make up your mind. You rely on stats to support Lin having a good game, and then say stats don matter relying on Chris Paul. Which is it? BTW Paul does have elite stats and if you really think Lin had the type of impact tonight that Paul typically has, you need help. Ultimately Lin had a blah game. He didn't kill the Rockets but he didn't win the game for them either. The problem is that invisible quarters are too common for Lin and they need to fix it... He is not a short term mediocre talent or player, they need him to have a bigger impact on the game, and right now he is too often just an after thought.
