He is right though. Very few teams can lose a star player and still succeed. The things Rick Adelman accomplished on the rockets with an injured Yao and Tmac alternately and jointly are vastly underrated. Even going for a record 22 straight without Yao at one point. And taking the Lakers to seven games in the Playoffs with only Ron Artest as the star player. Those were the days.

It just shows how very difficult it is for someone to be a head coach and how tough it is as an owner/GM to find one. I mean, at least Collins cares; but he really ought to stay with broadcasting. It's not that he can't coach at all but his temperament will burn himself and his players out, quickly. Looking forward to your broadcasts next year, Doug. JVG is better, though.
IMO, the gamble that the Sixers front office took on Bynum has crippled an upcoming franchise...that being said...The Rockets could be in the very same position if they had guys that just didnt try...thankfully we dont, and have a team filled with guys that try...
I can never figure out if Collins is good or bad at coaching or if he likes it or hates it or if he's better with youngsters or vets.
The Sixers were a doormat after AI left, and Collins resurrected them. Then they trade their core away. I personally never quite got the hate for Doug Collins. I actually liked him as a broadcaster. He was never really an elite coach, but he's still a good coach. Should have just kept his composure, but when you're frustrated and angry, sometimes you can't blame a guy.
Im not sure how to feel about this...think about if this was a player throwing his team or coach under the bus, the backlash would be harsh...i have always felt that the team should keep problems internal...
Yeah, the Sixers paid all that money for Elton Brand to f*** off and threw away Iggy, Harkless, and, uh, Vujovi...er, Ve...you know, the "V" guy, to acquire an expensive center who can't even go bowling without hurting a knee. So you do have to feel for the guy a bit. He's playing poker and got dealt the 2 of spades, the 8 of hearts, the 3 and 5 of clubs, and the jack of diamonds (Jrue Holliday). "Um, I'll take four cards, please."
The fact that you're asking these questions is probably not a good sign for him. No player who's played more than 1000 minutes for that team has a TS% of over .53. Literally everyone on that teams shoots equal to worse than Jeremy Lin.
I can't believe so many people here are harshly criticizing doug collings. He speaks the truth. I'd be pissed off too if I traded some valuable assets for a fat, lazy, injury prone Bynum. He is a good coach btw. He runs and executes plays, puts players in a position to succeed. That's the sign of a good coach. I do believe he is burned out from coaching. He's old and tired and maybe coaching is not the best thing to do at this stage of his life.
Weirdest comment: "I gave my body to this franchise." Lamest comment: "If everybody looked inside themselves as much as I did, this world would be a catscan." He also kept smiling weirdly at the crowd whenever he thought he said something brilliant. That was odd.
Really, I always thought Collins was one of the more insightful color commentators on TNT. I actually miss him doing games.
He's got a 52% career lifetime record and always seems to be emotionally drained. he's had some modest successes but also a fair amount of mediocrity - is it his fault? I'm not really sure. Seems like he's incredibly mercurial though and I don't know if that helps much. His career path has been so weird: -Forced out by Jordan in 89. -Modest success then mediocrity with Detroit as Coach/GM. -Then handpicked by Jordan for the pointless Wizards Jordan un-retirement ticket sales tour. Now this. Just kind of odd all the way around.
