18 people (tourists) died today in a Hot Air Balloon Crash over Luxor, Egypt. Click on link below for the story... http://news.yahoo.com/fiery-balloon-accident-kills-19-tourists-egypt-211739533.html This video was taken by folks in another hot air balloon. How terrifying must those final moments have been for the ones on the doomed balloon. And also, how scary must it have been for the folks in the other balloon witnessing all this while on a balloon themselves. You can clearly hear several people breaking down and crying. What a world we live in. A tragedy of epic proportions (what's the previous "highest death toll" from a hot air balloon?), and of course it's recorded and around the world practically in real time. Too strange.
Prayers for the family of those involved. I was in Egypt a month before the Tahrir mayhem started and was never impressed with their safety precautions at all. It's a third world, backwards country.
Gosh that was horrible, my wife and I did a balloon ride over Napa - and I doubt I would have gone had I seen this video beforehand. RIP DD
the chances of this happening to you isn't any higher than being in a plane crash. don't let a freak accident keep you from what could be one of the best times in your life.
Wow...Ive always wanted to do a hot air balloon ride, but Ive always been hesitant about it. After seeing this, I think I'd prefer to watch them from the ground. Even though I realize the risk is minimal, it still makes me uncomfortable.
Yeah, have riding a hot air balloon on my bucket list too. It's not going to deter me, but this is definitely going to be on my mind when I do. RIP
I did it and it was quite the experience. If you look at the stats .. hot air balloons are extremely safe. This is the first major accident in decades. I had quite the experience myself since the hot air balloon I was on was not able to land and we missed our landing zone due to high winds. Our 1 hr balloon ride became two hours when we finally landed in the middle of a major street to oncoming traffic. There were cops following us and they formed a road block. As for this horrible story I really cant imagine what the people on that balloon felt during the last seconds/min of their lives RIP and hopefully their loved ones and family memebers can get through this.
Someone can double check for me but I am pretty sure he or someone else in that other balloon was actually saying prayers the whole time. So no point in being insensitive during a horrible accident.
They were praying and crying. Ignore him. His natural reaction is to say something bad because this was in Egypt and he hates Arabs.
Oh man... my prayers to those killed and their families. How do you even comfort a family member of those who died?
