Pretty much anything you run into will be a watered-down version of its counterpart in Brazil (I'd like to write "Brasil" :)); that is, they make do with
    what they have here.

Emporio on Westheimer is fairly decent. They do try to give Brazilians a taste of home, you know?

Most of the rest seem like steakhouses ($$$ cha-ching $$$), and more of them opening all the time, with the exception of a pizzeria (many Brazilians put ketchup on pizza, did you know? YUCK!)

Ok my GF bought a groupon for Angus Grill. I was skeptical since I had never been. We get there and find out you have to make a reservation? Then I see the servers with ham & cheese on skewers.

I said let's get out of this mofo cause they are bastardizing the name of Brazilian Steakhouse

Yeah, I don't trust all these so-called steakhouses.

We walked into one of them just to check it out and got a smile out of hearing that Rio Grande do Sul (gaucho) accent.

My wife got here in June 2010. So, you live in the Houston area, hunh?

(Funny how you write "mofo". My wife has let the American equivalent of "porra" [f***ing] slip into her English, for which she, of course, blames me.)

Just my general observation. Brazilian's tend to miss home more in later years. You know that nostalgic feeling that makes you forget the bad stuff.

That's cool on your part though. What type of work took you to Brasil?

Not work. My wife and I "met" on www.orkut.com, which Facebook has steadily supplanted. I went there for the first time to meet her in person. The later trip to Rio was for her fiancee visa.

Ah, Rio. Pão de Açucar, Cristo Redentor, Leblon....

I have always been fascinated with Brazil, can't wait to visit and even would consider living there, granted in a laid back place like Brasilia since I'm a laid back person. Rio seems New Orleans in that it would be a great place to visit but it has lots of problems that get overshadowed because it's suchy a great tourist destination.

Sao Paulo seems like the result of New York and Houston having a baby with Rio raising the child (since it is in fact a South American city).
