a 1-4 seed with Josh Smith and our young guys is a good place to be. You have no where to go but up. If we stay put, we are competing for the 6-8 seed for years to come.
Just because one can block shots doesnt make him a good defender. Josh is not an elite defender in my book, players like Iguodala are elite defender, less flashy but much much more effective. Signing Josh is a high risk low reward move, at best it can push us up to #4, but nowhere near matching up against OKC or LAC. At worst it will tigh up all our cap room for years to come and absolutely wastes Harden's prime times.
So your response is an article saying that Smith would make an average of over $18MM a year? You are only making my point for me.
We now have the two prerequisites to sign a superstar free agent, a superstar and cap space. Miami hadn't ever signed anyone of significance before James and Bosh went there.
he is an elite weak side shot blocker, which is perfect with Asik. The Clippers have pretty much peaked as a team, Chris Paul is close to being as good as he can be, and Blake is just another A'mare Stoudemire. I like Houston's chances of surpassing the Clippers if they acquire Josh. OKC on the other hand is another story, and that's only because Durant and Westbrook are young freaks of nature. Don't underestimate Harden, though, he's a budding superstar himself, with oodles or room to grow. Pair him with one All-star and this team will sky rocket up the rankings.
Josh Smith has been the third best player on his team, playing with 2 actual All Stars. Saying he's more of a winner than Kevin Love is kind of like saying Robert Horry is better than Jordan because he has more titles. I'd like to see what Kevin Love would do with 2 other All NBA players.
Kevin Love and Josh Smith are similar in that they possess unique skill sets. They also need to be in a certain situation to have a positive impact. Kevin Love and Josh Smith are not good leaders.
Maybe How I see it is that we have a lot of young PF studs with a lot of potential. They have until the end of this year to show us if we need to go after a Josh Smith. If a couple of them start to play and may become the anointed one then lets just get a good solid mid level veteran to come in and start and when the kid is ready to shoulder the load than take over and be our star. If no clear cut star emerges then we go after a top of the line star PF and pay him. We trade our young potential stars for other pressing needs such as deepen the bench or draft picks. We keep the best young stud PF for a back up role. Josh Smith has the skills that is sorely needed by this team. With him we become a threat. Solid starting line up. With a good bench we are 1-4. I am curious though why I read here some comments that Harden is entering his prime? He shouldn't be in his prime until the end of his contract. Y'all know something here that no one else knows?
He's transformed himself into a Superstar caliber level player this season. He is entering his prime.
If I were the Rox, I'd give JSmith 8 or 9M/yr... max contract - pass! If yer gonna be handin out max contracts, it shouldn't be to an undersized pf (and no, Smith ain't no Barkley).
OK He is 23 though and should get even better over the next few years. I will admit I didn't expect Superstar this first year but hard to believe this is the best he will ever get. Thanks for replying. You are kind to do so.
OK Josh will be getting a max contract at max years from someone. I expect Dallas. If Howard feels like taking 30 million dollars less than the Lakers will give him and come to Houston at max then Howard will be a Rocket. Morey and Alexander have targeted him.
There is no need for Josh Smith on the Rockets roster since they have DMo, Robinson, and Jones already. The Rockets will most likely target Dwight Howard or another FA center or they won't go after another star at all and they'll just sign quality role players.
Ok Morey wants a star at that position or the 5. He will target a star to come here. The Rockets have always had a top of the line 5. If one of the young PF guns show he might have the stuff to be a star they may hold off but theodds of any of our young PF studs showing they have the right stuff between now and the end of the year are slim. The more likely odds are they will play enough to show they are great trade bait.
I get that, but in some ways it would be like adding a star SG...you just don't have need for it. IMO if Chris Paul would agree to come here we'd take him, if Daryl Morey wants Dwight Howard he'll get him, if you really wanted to gamble Andrew Bynum....other than that the talent just isn't there.
Yes They want Howard. Howard will not turn down the Lakers though. Bynum has bum knees and it would be folly to give him the max 4 year contract but Philly will and other teams will give him that. Houston does not need Bynum anymore though. Chris Paul is the best though. He will be offered the max from many teams. He should stay with the Clippers though.
