now that everyone's talking about pace and type of offense, wouldn't you think that despite Josh Smith's superior athletic versatility, Millsap, is more versatile in an offense like this. He has a better low post game. And can still get steals and initiate the break. And finish on the break as a trailer.
how long is it going to take for him to realize this "potential?" are you banking your future on your potential when you already have 1 of the 6 best players in this league? I am not overestimating how good of a player Smith is, I am gauging his skill set within the confines of how Houston plays and how good his abilities would fit with how Houston plays. He is an all-star level impact player, even if he isn't recognized for it. I am judging this union within the lenses of how Houston plays and who they've decided to hitch their wagon to(Harden).
Yeah, I'd rather have Millsap over Smith, especially since he'd be cheaper, but Millsap can't play center so his minutes would come at the expense of Dmo/Trob's.
high flying guys that can be good weakside blockers and fast break specialists are easier to find at a lower price than a Power Forward who can 1)start the break 2)finish the break 3)play down low 4)play in between 5)play solid D and Millsap could be had for waaay less money than Smith. So we would still remain flexible to trade him. Teams would love a value contract like that if their superstar is fleeing and Morey decides to swoop in
that's different, that's because he's DOMINANT in other facets of the game. He used to be the best defensive big in the game. Big Al has only been dominant in one thing, that's stopping the ball and playing with his back to the basket. Catering to Big Al is not worth taking away from Harden, Lin, and Parsons growth, in this system.
Harden is 23 years old. Waiting 2 years to see if TRob, DMo, Jones, or White can develop into an all star is in no way putting his future success at jeopardy. Tying up your remaining cap space in Josh Smith for the next 4 years is a lot more risky than waiting a few years to see if rookie contract players can develop. The Rockets don't have to rush anything.
Big Al is too slow footed. For the money he commands he would only be used in specialty situations. Thats why we need Millsap. The guy is going to be a workhorse in this system
Dwight's defensive impact is irrelevant since we're talking about the Rockets' offensive style. It's common knowledge that we would change our offense to accommodate Dwight. Therefore, I fail to see why you're having so much trouble accepting the fact that we'd tweak our offense to accommodate Jefferson, who is a superior offensive player than Dwight.
I actually think Millsap would thrive in this system. He's a low maintenance guy who would needs a change of scenery. Just hope and pray that Utah doesn't resign him.
Same problem as Josh Smith. We traded away Patterson and Morris to free up minutes for Dmo and Trob. What's the sense in doing that if we're going to bring in another PF who plays ~35 min? This is the 5th or 6th time I've brought this up.
what's wrong with developing your rookies off the bench? besides, those 2 you mentioned will have their chance the rest of this season.
you don't tweak your offense to a one trick pony. If you do, that pony had better be a freaking stallion.
There is nothing wrong with that but there is a lot wrong with giving Josh Smith $14-16MM a year. People can sit around here and talk about how he is backing off wanting the max all they want but the truth is that wherever he signs he won't be taking a pay cut. The guy is making $13MM this year and that number is only going to be going up with his new contract. I'd much rather go with the cheaper options that don't max out your cap for the next 4 years.
