Wow you gotta respect this guy. Giving up guaranteed money in Europe to go to the Dleague on a prayer to get a shot with an NBA team? Hard work and determination paying off. I'm instantly an Ohlbrecht fan. Wish we had this contract done before the Wiz game. We could have used him Sat. night.

Morey continues to make this team even more attractive to Dwight Howard...

I wouldn't consider Tim Ohlbrecht high flying IMO. I dont think he is good enough for anyone to get excited about. I like Greg Smith at Back Up (wish he would work out his fouling problem).

Was it an ASG ala the NBA where they just put on a show for fun (mostly theirs) or one where the guys were trying to prove their value to the big teams (NBA)?

Is Ohlbrecht one of the international players they considered a front loaded contract to or could Anderson be waived for one of those guys?

This. I remember reading when he turned down the Boston spot for ten days. I looked him up after, and saw he was on the Vipers. I figured if he turned down such an opportunity, and knowing the vipers were essentially Houstons farm team, Morey might have told him and his agent something behind closed doors. Couple days later he gets signed!

Yes, I have noticed and agree. I think Greg Smith becomes a valuable trade chip (er, asset) on Draft nite or in July.

The UFA market seems realistically limited to Millsap and Jeff, so trading may well be the way DM the GM chooses to move forward.

Considering he's coming from DLeague, not so much an international player.

I think the front-loading thing applies more to the buyout of their existing European contract etc.

If we waive someone, SURELY HoneyCUTt is first in line??

I doubt this has anything to do with trading Greg Smith or anyone else in the future. It's just using an open roster spot to look at a cheap prospect with a small chance of panning out. The contract is pretty much HOU's standard for all undrafted FAs coming into the league. For examples, they signed Courtney Fortson to the same kind of contract last season when his 10-days expired.

There really is a very small chance of the guy actually panning out. They just signed him because it costs next to nothing to gamble on such a small chance.
