This is the beautiful thing about having a Superstar on your team. Superstars attract other superstars.
For some players, it's difficult to predict how a player would fit just based off of conjecture. Love has yet to prove that he is a winning player who positively impacts his team. His numbers are gaudy, but his team is god awful. Even when he's been healthy.
So you are choosing to completely ignore that the Wolves were on their way to the playoffs before Rubio went down? The rest of that Wolves roster wasn't very good.
Sure, if he is in a big city... How many stars teamed up with LeBron in Cle? Carmelo in Denver? Dwight in Orlando? Garnett in Min? Nash in Pheonix? I could go on and on. Sure I think we have a shot. We have Harden who is a true and unselfish superstar, 2 ultimate role players in Parsons and Asik and a media phenomenon in Lin while being in the 4th largest city of the US with no income tax. But it is still not likely. So sure, we have to do everything we can to try to get a superstar or at least an all-star. But if we can't get that, I don't know how long we should be patient. I think we should collect more assets. Smith at the max is probably not a very tradeable asset - Smith at 12 million per year is probably a very good asset.
they were barely a .500 team, slightly better. That doesn't mean he's a superstar by any stretch. it's always been my contention that Love's ceiling was to be the 3rd best player on championship contending team. Love would fit in that Chris Bosh, caliber of player.
That's ignoring the circumstances. They were 3-7 before Rubio took over the starting position and 18-12 once he did. That's a 60% winning percentage which is much higher than our current 53%.
Josh Smith, a max deal, and Houston we have a problem. But this is the problem with all teams outside of the marquee markets. Why do you think Orlando had to max out Rashard Lewis, all those years ago? it's the same thing, sometimes to stay relevant, you have to overpay. Josh Smith is a huge gamble, but he would make this team fit like a glove. Everything would roll, the things we need, he would fulfill. I really believe that this is the best we can get. At what price? that's the multimillion dollar question.
so are you arguing for Rubio or Love? Rubio obviously makes his team better, and makes life a lot easier for Love.
I'm arguing for Love with another good player. You can look at the Wolves record this year to see that Rubio alone isn't enough. Harden is a better player than Rubio and Love would be a great second star to go along with him.
would he be better than Josh Smith? Josh has proven himself to be more of a winner than Kevin Love has. You can't refute, that.
Rubio's problem is that he can't shoot. It takes away from his passing when teams don't respect his jump shot.
josh smith somehow taking a discount to play with a team that he knows will wreck would be most ideal.. If I were him I'd do that, so that the team has room to sign great depth.
Yes he would be better than Josh Smith. Smith has had a much much better supporting cast around him while playing in a weaker conference. I actually think the Hawks would have been better off with Love jacking up all those threes that Smith was.
Well, it really sounds like someone is getting the max from us, so I assume that's what he would get. Someone's getting it.
Morey's already pulled Harden and Robinson in a double deal, the same number as the number of chins that he's got. lol
