    Some more prospect-related reading:

WTHB: Interview with BA's John Manuel

    Highlights:

Manuel addresses the reasoning behind the rankings of Nick Tropeano, Nolan Fontana, Domingo Santana, and Jonathan Villar.

    On Fontana:

On why Villar dropped from #4 to #12: He may well be the most polarizing prospect in the entire system.

What are the realistic expectations for Springer this season? Start at Corpus and possibly work his way up to OKC?

Once he gets to OKC, he is only a step away from MLB. I think he'll be in OKC. Under the previous regimes, I would think there was a good chance he would be potential call up in September. Under Ludhow, I think your guess is right.

Really? Under previous regimes, he'd still be playing in the GCL.

Wade regime was quick to promote.

    Hunsicker/Purpura were step-by-step guys.

I think Luhnow will promote deserving players. Biggest reason we wouldn't see Springer is that he's not on the 40-man roster.

Rio Ruiz mentioned by Baseball America as a potential Top 100 candidate in 2014.

Today's Ask BA: 6 Astros prospects who didn't make BA's Top 100, but garnered consideration.

    They are:

Jarred Cosart (who was #50 in 2012): named on 5 BA Top 150 lists, with a peak of 97
Mike Foltynewicz: 6, with a peak of 88
    Brad Peacock: 5, 105
    Rio Ruiz: 1, 145
    Domingo Santana: 1, 133
    Nick Tropeano: 2, 130

Now that DDJ and Springer have been sent to the minor league camp, what are y'all's thoughts on their placement? Both got late season auditions at higher levels (DDJ at A+ and Springer at AA).

Personally I'd love to see them both start together at AA and start linked advancement like the stros tried with Altuve/Villar. Based on what I read about Springer rubbing off on DDJ last spring, I think putting them together would help push one another.

DD is quite a bit younger, and still hasn't proved himself at Lancaster.

It took him a repeat to figure out Lexington. If DDJ kills at Lancaster I'm not against a quick promotion, but Id rather just promote them as necessary.

At the moment DDJ is blocked at 2B in houston anyway, so we could still use the time to see just what we have in Altuve.

Under the previous regime springer would have most likely skipped OKC. Wade started having players skip OKC in his last season (altuve, martinez, parades). I see no rush in hurrying springer to the majors, but I definitely see him making the majors at some point this season.

I was shocked to see someone rate folty at 88, but then again I didn't think mcullers would ranked 50.

Our minor league system is turning out to be great, 5 current top 100 prospects with a few more potential players, and we have another draft with the first overall pick coming up.

How many top prospects do you guys think we will have next season? (take springer/Cosart possibly losing eligibility into consideration)

Apparently the Astros signed Raoul Torrez.

Torrez was drafted in the 21st round by the Diamondbacks in 2010 and has been a utility player in his minor league career.
