Oh the United States (Texas specifically) makes great Mexican food. The Mexicans are terrible at making Mexican food. When I am in Mexico all I am thinking is 'man I could go for some Taco Bell right now'
As a Filipino, I am taking this opportunity to claim my 5% or so Spanish in me to join up with my fellow hispanic peeps! Kumusta?!
Be glad you're not in the rural/suburban Midwest, where you're Spanish regardless of native country, and they have the least exposure or patience with foreign accents of any kind.
Exactly. It's also a leeway into reading the internet on the throne and helping me to catch up on the worlds events. Multiple times.
Just TACOs? There's a little restaurant the Mrs. and I want to try out right on Dairy Ashford near Westheimer on the right, if you're coming from Briar Forest. It's called something something Mexico and at the bottom it says 'Tacos y Tortas' so I'm thinking it's like Arandas. We're still settling in the area... aren't you from around there already, man?
Ha. I am from around there, and that place is indeed great. I just went there for the first time a couple weeks ago. I highly recommend it. They make their own juice too, which I haven't seen many times before. But I want more. It's the only authentic Mexican place I know of near there. La Finca on Westheimer is pretty good too but I was looking for something more like the one you mentioned.
^ Fiesta on Bellaire/Gessner? We were at La Finca on Friday night drinking Micheladas and Margaritas... we tried to go to Hank's for craw fish but it was packed. La Finca is very expensive if you're looking for a quick taco. I'll look for more of these little 'taquerias' and small taco stands and will let you know, my brother.
Most of the people I grew up with were Puertorriqueños and Cubanos. My step father was from Torreón. My mother, father, grandparents and great-parents were all born in Texas. I am currently living and only learned how to speak Castellano in El Peru. The one thing I've noticed is that each group is distinctly different and thinks theirs is the best. And with that to draw from, I am Houstonian first and then everything else second.
I wish more hispanics that don't know english would learn more english. I really hate the racism that's being shown when I hear these stories of some people trying to order food. I wish someone would talk to me like that if I walked in McDonald's and treated that way. But I don't get treated that way since I speak clear english with no accent.
Elaborate, please? If you don't know how to speak English, you shouldn't be doing "customer service" type jobs like waiting tables... is that what you meant?
