So you think Delfino is a consistent shooter....??? Well he consistently jacked up 12 three pointers last night. And how was his defense in the paint when the game was on the line. The Rockets had a mouse in the house and Washington took advantage. Morey didn't trade away Patterson and practically give Morris away for Delfino to eat up 35 minutes a night at the power forward position. Morey is paying attention to what's going on and will be one of the reasons he goes with a different coach next season.
I'm sure he doesn't care, but I have a feeling for some games he doesn't have to see any tweets to see that McHail is not doing a good job. Can't blame him totally.....I think if you just gave a coach 90% or better new players to coach you probably need to cut him some slack too.
No coach is going to be perfect every game. Trust me, there have been many times Mchale has frustrated me but I look at the overall body of work for the season. The team has overachieved and he's got us in the Playoff race. Can't really ask for more then that with the team we currently put on the floor.
That's what I'm saying....he makes mistakes but you really can't blame too much on the coach, since as a GM, you've tossed him new players time after time.
Delfino may not be consistent in his shooting, but he's a consistent perimeter threat that the opposing team has to guard on the perimeter. He also allows McHale to keep to the offensive concept of having a stretch 4. OTOH he's a temporary solution to having two rotational power forwards traded way. D-Mo, Robinson and Jones will be given a chance to show their stuff during the next few months. Just maybe not right away.
Are you joking? This team is gold. Adelman would have us in the 4 seed right now, not trying to hold on to 8.
No he wouldn't. Big Adelman fan here but I can tell you that no coach in the league could would have this team at a 4th seed, you are delusional. Lets look at the rockets starting lineup. Lin Harden Parsons Delfino Asik Leaving out all the other teams that are above the rockets, lets look at the ones below them, mainly LA and Dallas Kobe Nash Artest Gasol Howard Collison Carter Marion Dirk Kaman I don't know how in the world you think Adelman would have this team as a top 4 seed, it is just not possible.
Forgot to add, you can't use your flawed logic by presenting games that were close and the rockets barely lost like at the Wizards, because it precisely their style of play under Mchale that has allowed them to play upto that level to begin with. This squad can easily be seen as a 30 win team.
Just to put things in perspective. During his first year as rockets coach, Adelman coached with a 20 million dollar hole and a 40 million dollar hole in the payroll (when Yao and Tmac got injured) and still got a 22 game winning streak made it to the first round of the playoffs. During his second year, Adelman coached with a 20 million dollar hole in the payroll (Tmac injured) and still got us to the second round of the playoffs. We were the only team to take the Lakers to seven games in that season. Yao went down in the first round of the blazers series. I must say I was impressed with the rockets taking a prime lakers to seven games without yao and tmac. the wonders of adelman's version of the princeton offense.
Lakers are playing horribly but we have a top 5 player in the league. A coach with a top 5 player generally at the minimum has to get his team to the playoffs. Because we're young ppl didn't expect much and had low expectations.
Only more proof that coaching plays an integral part of a team's success. With phil jackson they were a well-oiled machine winning championships , with mediocre coaches they struggle to even make the playoffs.
If win/loss and "over achievement" were the only things Morey/Rockets evaluated and cared about regarding a coach, they would have just retained Adelman. Morey clearly has a vision for the team, he knows which players are in his future plans and which are not, he knows which players he wants to play and shine, he doesn't want to see those said players ride the bench in favor of some veterans low ceiling guys not in the future plans. If McHale's not on board with this, and insists on "his way" rather than "Morey's way", good luck to him, he won't be here long unless he wins us the championship doing "his way" which I doubt it will happen. JVG and Adelman were prime examples. Both were let go even with winning records.
According to Vegas we're over achieving but looking at the points differential it would appear that we're underachieving. Looking at the roster on face value it would be fair to say we're overachieving, but it's also difficult to gauge because our roster is so unconventional.
I really think u can't be too critical of mchale at this point. U have to give him kudos on getting the team over .500 so far. Wait till end of the season, I even think save ur judgement till middle of next season to see if the team is improving compared to this year. I think a lot of ppl really has no idea how difficult it is to get a team with new players to gel. Even the original dream team lost to a college team. Let's hope mchale and the players make the most of the soft schedule coming up. We are on course to be 45+ wins this season. Can't complain too much with that record. Next year, imagine how good this team will be.
When McHale interviews he sounds so damn intelligent. He has a deep understanding of the game that I haven't heard from most other coaches. Waiting for him to translate that to his decision-making.
McHale is the coach for this team; not a commentator. For him to go off and say these things ... to me is bad judgment. It's not a question of whether JLin can take it; to me it's: is this the most effective way to motivate Lin? And if not, what is the point? To advance McHale's own image?
