Also.... interesting developments.

It's amazing, but scouts already eyeing #Astros starter today, Lucas Harrell. Can't be a FA till 2018. Man, id love to know the velocity on that pitch . If cosart has the ability to locate
(even sporadically) a 94-98 mph fastball there
, then I'm officially a little bit excited about him. He may not strike out a lot of batters in the minors but if he can maintain a high ground ball rate and throw
Hard he can have success in the major leagues .

i reckon he could fetch a pretty nice haul at the deadline if he maintains last season's form.

makes you wonder if altuve is available as well. i like the kid, and he's fun to watch, but is pretty darn easily replaceable with our farm's middle infield depth.

Sure hope that kind of a patter doesn't start though. I have no problem with the rebuilding project, in fact I was hoping for this two years before it began. But there are two kinds of rebuild.

    1) You rebuild the system with trades, high draft picks and hitting on lower picks. Then you keep that nucleus together, add to it with a few free agent signings and contend for a long period. Think Astros in the 2000's

    2) You rebuild the system and then try to constantly keep new talent flowing from the system because you are going to constantly let the guys you have already developed go. The Expo's were basically the rich teams farm system for about a decade, Royals have been on that path for a long time also

If we start dealing away guys who are years from free agency just because they have "value" then jeeez

i hear you, but there's also no way of knowing who constitutes management's long term nucleus. i don't think they are in the business of trading just for the sake of trading.

Brian T. Smith (@ChronAstros): #Astros' lineup vs. #Mets: M. Gonzalez SS, Altuve 2B, Pena 1B, Wallace DH, Ankiel RF, Castro C, F. Martinez LF, Dominguez 3B, Grossman CF.

@ChronAstros: Max Stassi going to see doctor to have sports hernia examined. #Astros

@ChronAstros: #Astros think Stassi's oblique injury is possibly being triggered by hernia. Oblique hasn't fully healed, so he's having it checked out.

@ChronAstros: #Astros' Porter said he'll likely keep a sixth starter on 25-man roster for long relief. #MLB

@ChronAstros: Luhnow also said it makes sense for #Astros to have an extended-relief pitcher on roster. Could be sixth starter or reliever. #MLB

I like Harrell and what he has done since coming to the Astros, but he is exactly the type of pitcher that teams overpay for at the deadline every year. He is not ever going to be a top of the rotation pitcher and the only reason he is here is because at this time the Astros don't have any other viable option. I could see him being moved if they get a blow me away type offer.

And Veras promptly serves up a 2-run homer to Jordany Valdespin.

And that's how it ends. Technically, still undefeated!
