Last night we played OKC, the top team in the West and a team with two of the most popular young stars in the game. You could walk up at game time and buy tickets if you wanted. If the majority of the fan base had been able to watch this team all year, that would not have been the case
I'd imagine that they're all destined to drop it, but they're probably stuck with it due to contracts. I believe that DISH just re-upped with FSN Houston a couple of years ago.
Yeah, it came down to the wire IIRC. Happened right before opening night. That's kind of what I was hoping for with CSN (40% of) Houston. Didn't happen. And probably won't for a LONG time.
Bad analogy. This is more like, you are leasing a car for $1,200 a month with the expectation that you will then rent it out daily for $50/day to make a profit. If you keep leasing it for the next ten years and never rent it out because the other side will only give you $40, then you are losing even more money than you would have had you just lowered the asking price. The original post said they have a figure that they need so as not to lose money. By being so stubborn about their figure, the figure they are getting now is $0. If the figure Directv is offering is losing them money, then this figure of $0 is losing them that much more money.
The last lakers game was not a sell out either. But again, even if they don't sell out, they're still making more money with Comcast rather than selling out every game
It's not about sellouts. The upper bowl folk is chump change to Les; it's all about the corporate suites...and Comcast money.
Has nothing to do with my response geared toward why they are losing money. I get they don't want to settle for a lesser fee. I get they are tired of talking to they are Blue in the face. But for right now at this moment, CSN is losing money on this deal.
Sports bars which air Rockets games Could you list sports bars and restaurants that air Houston Rockets, Reliant center area, Galleria areas? hank you. QUOTE=Clutch;7229585]1/19/2013 UPDATE: Please sign the petition to help get the ball rolling: <HR> Since the board has had a ton of questions about this and I get asked on email and Twitter a lot, here is a thread I hope to update as providers are added. As of Wednesday morning, October 10th (date of Rockets' first preseason game), here are all the providers that have Comcast SportsNet Houston available: Coastal Link (channels 31/131 in Brazoria County, Texas). Comcast Cable (channels 39/639 in the Houston area; 86/1688 in Houma, La Place, Monroe and Shreveport, Lou.; 269/1687 in Little Rock, Ark.). Consolidated Communications (channels 42/723 in the Houston area). EnTouch (channels 73/473 in the Houston area). Phonoscope (channels 35/293 in the Houston area). Currently DirecTV, UVerse, Dish Network are shut out. The Rockets and CSN Houston want you to go to http://iwantcsnhouston.com to demand from your provider that they add the channel, but it's really just helping them push the demand for it and get more money for it. As it always does, it comes down to money for both sides. Keep in mind also the name "Comcast" being in the channel isn't helping when it comes to UVerse and the rest wanting to add it. It's like asking Coke to air the Pepsi channel. I'm going to guess they'll have something worked out by the season's start. We'll see. (Poll added by Carl Herrera)[/QUOTE]
I think Rockets fans should consider getting Comcast for 30 days and then cancelling. If enough do this as a protest I think it sends a message and I doubt they make any significant money. They might even have a money back guarantee. I think you can keep your Dish or Directtv in the meantime. I am thinking of doing this for the last 30 days of the season. Since I have comcast internet I keep receiving offers in which the difference would be neglible. Anybody have any similar ideas?
That may be true, I won't pretend to know about the finanaces of all of this because I don't. Seems to me though, that if this goes on and on where less than 40% of the market can watch, ratings won't support big television dollars. I am and will always be a Rockets fan, but Les just took a seat directly behind John McMullen on my list of all time Houston Sports owners, wish he would take his rotting carcass back to New York and let a Texan buy the Rockets
This depends on the contract. If the contract pays the team a specified dollar amount per year, then that's what it is. If the contract contains an adjustment due to the team's ownership interest in the network or an adjustment annually due to ad revenues or ratings, then it starts to matter. I do not know how the contract was structured. One would think that, if there was a contingency in the contract, that the Rockets would be much more active in pushing for carriage agreements.
Just seems like if they own the station, it would matter how many people watch? Again i'm no expert on tv contract deals, but i'm smart enough to figure out that if most people aren't watching, someone isn't going to make a lot of money
I hear ya. It would seem that way to me as well. However, I read somewhere (maybe here) that the team is getting a fixed amount for their television rights. It seems very odd in the context of them being an equity partner in the network.
I can't believe this is still going on. This stream bs is annoying. Gonna go the entire season without being on most televisions.
Please tell me we will get his channel once the Astros come on. Not that I want to watch the Astros, but just to have it for future Rockets viewing
League Pass Finally gave in and bought league pass for dish network for $99 for (half) rest of the season I couldn't take it anymore and with the acquisition of T-Rob, I wanted too watch it.
Hey I just checked. If you cancel for any reason within 30 days you get all your money back. All the installation and the $61.95 which is the lowest cost package that will give you the Rockets.
