And look what a summer with Carrol Dawson has done for Asik. I'm not looking for an imidiate return on Robinson but this is a much better situation for him.

I am one of the minority that voted against the trade in that poll. Lottery picks on rookie salaries are very valuable commodities in the NBA, teams usually keep these players until they have to make a decision on their 3rd year option. For a team to give up on a 5th pick makes you scratch your head.

Pretty much this. Also, The key word here is "potential" which most top draft picks are full of. Its the development of that potential and the motor of that player to be better that separates the top picks from each other.

From what I have seen of his play he can rebound in traffic and that wasn't the case with Patterson or Morris. Robinson is a true PF that plays close to the basket compare to what Patterson and Morris were doing. I can't wait to see him play along side Asik.

The local paper can usually be expected to take a couple of shots at the outgoing player. but even they couldn't spin the trade as anything but a disaster. Worse case for the Rox is that our logjam at power forward is a bit less murky. Everything else is gravy.

The Asik point is a pretty good one.

Because according to Bulls fans, Asik was a offensive 0...as in he was completely useless on the offensive end.

We know that's not true. He's not the preferred option but if you give him the ball close enough to the rim he can finish. He'll still fumble the ball sometimes but he's not the complete offensive 0 he was made out to be.

Also, it's great to know that his shot has been improving. I think the environment around here he can thrive.

Where players like Asik can post up after a summer of work...and Jeremy Lin can become a knock down 3 point shooter within a season...he'll get better here.

Hopefully there is a lot of drive and motivation especially after getting off the Kings.

Solid post. This is exactly the type of mentality we should all have on this trade. Morey knows what he had, what he gave up, and what he received.

We will be ok folks, just give T-Rob time to settle in. This is all new to him

I've kind of been wondering how much Patterson's ability to calm down Cousins may have factored into their desire to trade for him.

Another point I think should be emphasized is progression. Morey has not been perfect and has taken chances on busts like Jordan hill, Johnny Flynn, and o'l big lips jones.

I'm sure he has learned from his mistakes as evident by the solid pickups of asik harden and Lin. Plus morey has gotten back value on those three.

The only thing that irks me is drafting Marcus Morris over faired and Leonard. Hopefully he has learned from that mistake.

There had to be problems with Robinson in Sacramento. Why else trade him? The article describes weaknesses in attitude and ability that were exacerbated by the conditions in Sac. A brooding guy, high on his own draft status, in a terrible locker room the coach cannot control... A dude with no refined offensive skills playing in poor spacing and structure.... No surprises here.

The kid is a 6'9" (in shoes) PF with a high motor and crazy athleticism. I don't know what else Morey sees, but I am excited because he is excited. Like a lot of folks, I am deferring to the Rockets scouting on this one. I hope the coaches get through to the guy.

We shouldn't get our hopes too high. But no need to be totally down on the guy until he gets the stink of Sac Kings off of him. Gonna be an interesting ride.

I'll quote emjohn from another thread, since I can't say it any better:

Par for the course. Doesn't scare me one bit.

It can't have been easy being in that locker room, that's for sure.

The rockets have two things that the kings do not have.... kevin mchale and leslie alexander. Bc of our owner, trob will play in a stable environment and be coached by one of the greatest to play his position. I think Mchale will have a positive impact on him much like he has had on patterson (who was turning into a good player) asik, smith and garnet (in the past)

that stability and leadership will go a long way in stablizing a 21 year old

Unless it's the Kings, probably the worst place to be for a young player.

    houston's front office >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sacremento's front office

while not perfect, our talent evaluation is light years ahead of most teams, especially a team like sacremento. if morey and co. thought highly enough of robinson to try and trade up to snag him during the draft then you know they see something they like and it's not like those things just disappeared when he hit the league.

in addition to that he becomes a significantly better trade chip than anything we gave away to get him. absolute no brainer for the rockets.

Let's not kid ourselves. The most likely outcome is that he IS a bust. Sacto got a good look at him and decided to move him along, and we should temper our expectations accordingly.

That said, so what? This trade is all upside for us. Pat was a middling contributor at a position that's not hard to fill, and he was only going to be on a cheap contract for one more year. T-Rob's got some exceptional attributes to his game, and if he develops right, he could turn into a better version of Carl Landry. We took a low-cost bet with a very high potential payout.

I can't wait for Robinson to read this.

Remember when NY dogged on Hill and even he got better.

I actually disagree... Morey is a gambling man. He gambled before and he gambled here. He takes on players with huge upsides that had any kind of problems and hope, that they can correct them here. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn`t.

I don`t think he is positive that T-Rob can be a dominant player in the NBA. He just likes his odds. And he likes what he gave up. Not one of the players were in our long term plans and we actually cleared some cap room. And we got a great asset in return. And if he doesn`t pan out and nobody wants him? No problem, he is on a cheap rookie contract that you can get out of pretty fast.

So what that we have to go through a couple of T-Wills and Thabeets - sometimes he finds the Asiks, Lins and hopefully T-Robs. But he is gambling, that when he is losing, he actually isn`t losing much.

Did Robinson workout for Houston during his pre-draft workouts last summer?
